Child of light is a role-playing game (RPG) being developed by Ubisoft Montreal. It follows the protagonist, Aurora, in her adventures to save the mysterious world of Lemuria and rescue it from the grasp of the Dark Queen and her minions. Ubisoft describes Child of Light as a "poetic turn-based RPG."
Child of Light was announced at the Game Developers Conference Europe (GDC) in August 2013 by the game's developer Patrick Plourde. At a panel entitled "Small Projects in AAA Studios: Making of Child of Light", Plourde described the the project as "a game that is a playable painting". He further explained that early 20th Century Swedish artist John Bauer was his primary inspiration for its art style, along with Studio Ghibli founder Hayao Miyazaki and artist Yoshitaka Amano.
Ubisoft describes Child of Light's gameplay as "fighting your enemies in an Active-Time Battle System, you will be able to fight alongside the firefly Igniculus and other members of Aurora’s party." The game's combat characteristics appear very reminiscent of earlier Final Fantasy titles. Developer Patrick Plourde also directly quoted Squaresoft's earlier titles as inspiration for the combat system.
The music in Child of Light is composed by Canadian singer-songwriter Béatrice Martin, also known as Cœur de pirate. The soundtrack was released on the same day as the game on April 29th 2014.
