    Overview

Zombie Estate 2 is the successor to one of the most highly rated Xbox Live Arcade indie titles. It was released on January 13th, 2017 by the newly founded Sad Spaghetti Entertainment. Like the previous title, Zombie Estate 2 is a dual-stick, cooperative shooter in which up to four players fight off the zombie hoard. It retails on the Steam Store for $4.99.

    Gameplay

In many ways Zombie Estate 2 can be thought of as a remake of the original Zombie Estate. It is still a dual-stick shooter, it is still a maximum of four players, and there are still waves of zombies. However, in this game there are new game modes, maps, and the option for either local or online multiplayer. Along with these additions are updated graphics and controls allowing mouse and keyboard support.

Upon starting a game, no matter the game mode, the players are put in the chosen map with their starting weapon which is decided based on the character they chose. Soon the first wave starts and once the required number of zombies are killed, the remaining ones disappear. At this point the players are given three minutes to ready themselves for the next wave. During this time the shop becomes available where you can buy weapons and ammo using money collected from zombies. After a few waves have passed, a new zombie type gets introduced. In general, the new zombie is introduced through a wave of entirely that type of zombie.

    Game Modes

There are three different game modes in Zombie Estate 2: casual, hard, and unlimited. Both the casual and hard modes are completed after 15 waves. The difference between the two lies entirely in the fact that zombies have more health in hard mode.

The unlimited game mode is what it sounds like. There is no wave cap. However, what makes it more difficult is that the zombies gain health the further the players get. Zombies at round 10 would be stronger than the same zombies at round 5.

    Maps

There are six unique maps to choose from in Zombie Estate 2. The maps contain no special features other than slightly different layouts and aesthetics.

    • Estate - This is the generic "Estate" map pulled from the first game with some minor tweaks. The building layout has changed slightly from the first game but the majority remains the same.

    • Zombie High

Zombie High - An abandoned high school.

    • The Mall - A mall(Obviously).

    • Sky Scraper - A series of rooftops held over an abyss.

    • Desert Town - An entirely outdoor map surrounded by cliffs.

    • Office - A labyrinth of cubicles.

    Weapons

Weapons in Zombie Estate 2 take 4 different ammo types: assault, shells, heavy, and explosive. All ammo types can be acquired by drops from zombies or through the store between waves. There are also melee weapons that require no ammo to use. Melee weapons have a very limited range giving the option for a weapon with high risk but unlimited uses.

Weapons can also be upgraded up to three times using upgrade tokens gained after each round. These upgrades can give significant boots to a weapons usefulness. Each weapon's upgrades are predetermined so the player will not have the ability to choose the upgrade but rather whether or not to get it at all. Upgrades can be higher damage, better accuracy, higher rate of fire, and a ton of other bonuses as well.

    Characters

The game starts off with 10 characters unlocked and 25 available to unlock. Characters are unlocked using Z, the in-game currency, which is obtained at the end of each game. Each character has different buffs or debuffs to their attributes. For example Dave has a maximum health of 140 while Jess has a maximum of 90. On the other hand, Jess has higher explosive damage than Dave. Every character also starts with a different weapon. Some of the character specific weapons are unique, others are purchasable in-game at the shop between rounds.

In the character selection screen players are also prompted to pick a hat to put on their character. Each hat adds to or subtracts from character attributes. For example the Beanie adds +15 health and +5 armor while the Fireman Hat gives +35% fire damage but also gives -10% gun(physical) damage and - 10% melee(physical) damage. Hats, like characters, are purchasable with Z in the character selection screen.
