    Overview

Night Striker is a Z-axis shoot 'em up released in arcades by Taito. It features a similar type of super scaler technology that can be seen in Sega games like After Burner and Space Harrier, while also featuring branching paths in its level structure like OutRun and Darius.

The plot concerns a famous scientist, Dr. Lindberry, who is abducted along with his daughter by a shadowy organization planning to use his expertise. In response, the United Nations Secret Service Agency sends out an agent specially equipped with a modified flying vehicle capable of withstanding all resistance.

The game was first released in arcades in 1989 and saw home versions several years later starting with the Mega CD in 1993, the Sony PlayStation in 1995, and the Saturn (where it has the name Night Striker S) in 1996. It also featured in the Japan-only PS2 Taito compilation Taito Memories II Gekan in 2007. Most recently, the Mega CD version of the game was included in the second Sega Genesis/Mega Drive Mini, also making its North American and European debut.
