oOo: Ascension (pronounced "Triple O: Ascension") is a fast-paced arcade-style game that mixes together elements of traditional platformer and racing games. The player must navigate their way through increasingly challenging worlds as they attempt to beat each course either alone or with a friend in local co-op mode in the fastest possible time.
Using minimal controls throughout (move, boost and brake), each level challenges the player to reach the end point - signified by a glowing yellow platform - without touching any walls, going off the edge of the track or hitting any of the numerous hazards that populate each level. Additional game mechanics are introduced as the player progresses, taking the form of new dangers such as spinning blades, shooting turrets, triggers that deactivate certain walls and more.
The game consists of 90 levels, split into 9 sections of 10 levels that each introduce at least one new mechanic and expand on it as the player progresses, often culminating in a boss-like encounter in the final level of each section that tests the players' understanding of the mechanic in a time-restricted manner.
oOo: Ascension is also notable for containing no alphabetical text - in both the main menu and the in-game display a combination of symbols and numbers represents all the information to the player. The game was developed by Kenny Creanor and published by EM Studios, originally launching as an Xbox exclusive in May 2018 and a PC/Mac version being made available on Steam in September of the same year.
