Considered the multiplayer component of the 2021 game Resident Evil Village, Re:Verse puts players in six-player deathmatches with heroes and bioweapons from recent games in the Resident Evil series. It will be discontinued in June 2025.
Overview
Resident Evil Re:Verse, known in Japan as Biohazard RE:Verse, is a multiplayer horror-themed third-person shooter developed and released digitally by Capcom for the Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5 (Platform), Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC on October 28, 2022 for free for those owners of Resident Evil Village (Game).
Considered the multiplayer component of the 2021 game Resident Evil Village (Game), Re:Verse puts players in deathmatch battles for up to six players at a time, with characters from not only Resident Evil Village, but also the Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 (Game) remakes.
Along with character-specific abilities, the game is known for its death mechanic where, once a player is defeated as a survivor, they immediately transform into one of several bioweapons to continue their rampage.
It originally received a closed beta in January 2022, with an open beta in April 2022. It was later announced that the game and its DLC will be delisted from all storefronts on March 3, 2025, with a full server shutdown on June 29, 2025 (effectively making the game unplayable).
Gameplay
Although the game is a standard deathmatch game, with players earning points on kills, it grants bonus points based on numerous factory (including the current killstreak and the victim's leaderboard position).
Although players lose points on death (either survivor or creature) and their killstreaks are reset, they can regain their previous streak by killing the player who last killed them.
Creatures
Once players are defeated in their survivor forms, they automatically mutate into one of several unique creatures, each with their own abilities. The creature they are given is random based on how many Virus Capsules the picked up in that life, with more capsules granting stronger creatures.
Once they are killed as a creature, they respawn back in their normal form.

Characters
Each of the game's playable characters have their own special abilities. While their default outfits are based on the game they're from, additional outfits from different games (including classic outfits and a collaboration with Tom Clancy's The Division 2) are unlockable (several of which are DLC).
- Chris Redfield (Character) (RE8) - Can become temporarily immune to flinch and knockback, and can lunge forward for a powered punch.
- Jill Valentine (Character) (RE3) - Can place explosive landmines, and can perform a series of slashing melee attacks.
- Leon S. Kennedy (RE2) - Can temporarily dual-wield handguns and perform a roundhouse kick.
- Claire Redfield (Character) (RE2) - Can administer a adrenaline shot to replenish stamina and heal HP, and can throw a device to shock nearby enemies.
- Ada Wong (Character) (RE2) - Can grapple upward for a mid-air explosive arrow shot, and can perform a backwards somersault kick.
- Hunk (RE2) - Can cloak himself for temporary invisibility, and can perform a quick forward stab (which is buffed while cloaking).
Additional characters, all of which make up Chris Redfield's Hound Wolf Squad, were added to the game in later updates.
- Tundra (RE8) - Can deploy an explosive trap disguised as a Virus Capsule, as well as shoot two shots of a special toxin. Added on November 16, 2022.
- Night Howl (RE8) - Can deploy an autonomous aerial drone to fire on enemies, and deploy a device to disrupt enemies nearby. Added on November 29, 2022.
- Umber Eyes (RE8) - Can temporarily see enemies through walls, and throw a flashbang to blind enemies. Added on December 14, 2022.
- Lobo (RE8) - Can rush forward into a powerful shoulder charge and grant himself unlimited ammunition. Added on December 21, 2022.
- Canine (RE8) - Can give himself increased movement (while revealing nearby enemies) and deploy a small automated turret. Added on January 11, 2023.
End of Service Announcement
Official Shut Down Notice
On February 2nd, 2025 Capcom announced that they would be ending the operation of the game's servers, thus ending the ability to play the game.
Announcement Timeline
- February 5th, 2025 - Announcement of the ending of service.
- March 3rd, 2025 - Date that the game would be delisted from all online services along with the removal of the ability to purchase any DLC.
- June 29th, 2025 - On this date the game would no longer be received with purchases of Resident Evil Village. Along with this the game would no longer function from this date forward as they are shutting down the servers.
