Angkor Wat is a temple constructed by the Khmer Empire in the 12th century that became their capital. It is greatly revered by the Cambodian people to this day as a place of worship and for its cultural and historical significance. It is analogous to the Taj Mahal (Location) of India and other visually distinctive structures throughout the world in this regard.
