“We Know the Devil” is a visual novel that follows three friends stuck in a Christian summer camp. In the demo, these three are forced to participate in a series of cliche summer camp activities, while in the full game they are given the duty of staying in an abandoned cabin overnight, awaiting the arrival of the devil.
The protagonists set out in a group of three, but two characters will always develop a closer bond during the game, always forcing a “third wheel” vibe which attempts to give players an insight into how isolation among friends must feel.
Breaking from the common genre mechanics of controlling a main character, players are put in the role of an overseer who subtly manipulates the actions of the characters. Allowing the player to learn the personalities of the characters while encouraging them to build certain relationships or react in different ways to situations.
The game provides three different endings depending on who the player chooses least often, as well as a self-described “horrifying bonus true end”.
