Carmen Sandiego Will Be the Next Thing Jennifer Lopez Ruins for Everyone
At first I was thinking to myself, "Wait, isn't Carmen Sandiego white?"
Then I really thought about. Well played childhood television.
EDIT: I will watch it if Rockapella features prominently.
@EchoEcho: Regardless of the length, I want to read well-written articles. 90% of the time, a well written article will be shorter than a poorly written one. That said, there are definitely times when a topic deserves a more in-depth discussion, and for those I don't mind taking the extra minute or two reading them.
As @Anwar said, there's nothing wrong with expecting excellence from Giant Bomb, as they're already on top of the heap in so many other ways.
@Anwar: Here's where I stand: I come to Giant Bomb because I'm interested in hearing the opinions of its editorial staff (and also for goofy videos, but that's neither here nor there), so that is why I don't mind the news articles being suffused with Alex or Patrick's opinions. I don't know if you were including me when you said "some duders", but if at some point I implied that I think it's okay because "GB ain't professional, yo" then that was far, far from intentional. There's a difference between wanting GB to maintain its own voice and culture and thinking that maintaining said culture makes them unprofessional.
Really, I think I'm mostly guilty of not thinking about it as hard as some people do, but I chose to jump in and debate anyway. Maybe that was a mistake.
I don't have a problem with Jennifer Lopez. What's wrong with her? I mean, yeah, she's not great actress so I wouldn't choose her for this role, but I'm not sure what's with the "unlikable" stuff. Then again I don't follow celebrity gossip so maybe there's a lot I don't realize.
@Lively: I expect excellence from Giant Bomb as well. "Excellence" to me may not mean the same thing as it does to the next guy, though. I enjoy Alex's news articles -- I find them informative and entertaining, and, as I mentioned in my reply to Anwar above (didn't notice your comment until after I posted), I actually enjoy that they're equal parts news and opinion piece. Some people really, really don't like that though -- and that's perfectly all right. It just irked me that there were comments insisting that articles such as these shouldn't be called "news" at all, simply because it wasn't done in the style and/or structure that they expect. Whether or not the article was well-written seems to fall squarely into "Eye of the Beholder" territory, though. I don't personally have any issue with how the article was structured or written. *shrug*
Carmen Sandiego starring Jennifer Lopez is to be released Dec. 21st 2012 says Paramount, they expect a world wide release.
Seriously, who could waste a care on this? Yet you manage to take the most boring news available and turn it into an article I absolutely loved, along with turning an utterly dull children's game show music track into a solid punchline. And all at the expense of evil personified. This isjournalism. Somebody give this man a raise.
I...
A dude with a mullet, except the mullet is bleached at the ends and is made into... mini dreads?
GET THIS MAN TO PLAY CARMEN SANDIEGO! I don't care how dumb that sounds, FIND HIM!
How did I know just from the title that Alex wrote this?
Chill out, duder. You're really harshing the Giant Bomb vibe.
Where is Carmen Sandiego? It will be on Jennifer's ass. They
should spotlight every answer to every question on her ass.
Then it might at least be watchable.
I'm not necessarily against it, but has Alex written a news article this week that doesn't mention or blatantly allude to Occupy Wall Street?
They've mostly been fine, though this article's Occupy Wall Street reference seems extra forced. And the GTA V one was a bit of a stretch, as I highly doubt that they're going to significantly work in a less-than-2-months-old movement into a game that is clearly fairly far along. Sure, they might mention the recession as a reason for everybody in Los Santos being on hard times and turning to crime, but Occupy Wall Street in GTA would be stupidly topical and end up making the game seem really dated really quickly.
If only there was a whiskey site for movie and films for this news story.......
Oh wait! there is
pretty sneaky alex
It's fine that everyone wants to enjoy Alex's yellow journalism, if that turns you on. It turned me off to the point that I decided NOT to become a premium member here, in part because of that. If you feel that stuff like that is what defines Giant Bomb's 'style', I made the right decision to stay a take or it leave member instead of committing any actual $$$s. This is after following the crew from Gamespot to here.

I also don't especially like Alex's articles most of the time, but I can't really see what that has to do with subscribing. Virtually any subscriber here will tell you that they're not here for the news articles, but rather the overarching absurdity that is Giant Bomb.
Alex's journalism is biased as shit, snarky, and cynical, often to the point of being abrasive. Yet, he is one writer. Admittedly, one of the only two that produce articles, but still. He is but a single side to the personality and style of the community and site. I can appreciate the voicing of your opinion and where you stand on it, I just wanted to propose the opposing point of view.
@xxizzypop: We can certainly disagree over it, and that is fine. I thought the issue about bringing Patrick here at all was to improve the quality of the news on this site, which was a major weak point in the past. Alex is not doing them any favors in that regard, and even Patrick seems to be slipping into writing agitprop opinion pieces hiding as news. If Giant Bomb wants to be nothing but an insular community of in jokes and tossing out platitudes to appeal to their fan boys, that is their choice. But they should be aware it is turning off some people, too.
If they are getting enough money to keep the sites going from people that like the way things are, that is great. But I am going to stay a casual, non paid member. I have perhaps made the mistake of expecting better from this site than what they are offering up.
@MJames70: This might sound silly, but what exactly are you expecting? I've attempted to read and take up in the community of other sites and I've just never managed to stick with it. I've been fairly sated with what I get here, the only time that I wasn't being when Brad Nicholson was on staff and turning the news portion into a veritable shitshow.
GB audience calm down. News got to you. JLo. Carmen Sandiego. Rockafellas. Do we really want to start expecting more than this?
Its almost like he did that on purpose because it was also related to videogames. WEIRDDDD.If only there was a whiskey site for movie and films for this news story.......

Whereeeee on earttth is Carmeeen San Diegggoooo? I use to love the cartoon series and the game show they had for kids
You know, honestly never feel comfortable hating on Jennifer Lopez because Out of Sight is a damn good film and she contributes in that. She is no Clooney or Steve Zahn (his best role to date) but she does a fine job. So yeah, I guess nothing else she did matched that but because of that one stellar achievement, I have some measure of hope for this being less than terrible.

I greatly dislike the way Alex writes his headlines. How about just "Jennifer Lopez to Star in Carmen Sandiego Movie" then complain about how he doesn't like that fact inside of the article? It just seems like sloppy journalism to me. Maybe there should there be a separate opinion section on GiantBomb? This is not a news article. It's Alex's opinion on a news item.
