It may be my mind playing tricks, but I think that 6 months prior to the launch of the 360, PS3 or Wii we were bombarded with info, marketing campaigns, news, previews and all kinds of shit regarding those consoles. Yet, in the case of Wii U we have very little. What are they doing over at Nintendo? It's still coming out this Holiday Season, right?
Wii U
Platform »
The Nintendo Wii U, the follow-up to the monstrously popular Nintendo Wii console, launched in North America on November 18th 2012.
Isn't this supposed to be out in 6 months?
Why would I buy a console with the power of the one ive got at the end of its life. 720\PS4 announcements will kill this thing.

We don't even know the power of the thing yet, really. Some devs have been saying it's more powerful than current hardware and others have been saying it's on par. Basically we're not going to know until it's out in the wild most likely. We also don't know the power of the 720 or PS4 yet. I get the feeling we aren't going to see a huge step up this time (Five Hundred and Ninety nine dollars etc) anyway, BUT ALL SPECULATION AT THIS POINT... so yeah.

Rumors put 720 around 20% more powerful than WiiU. If all you're interested in is graphics I think you'd better brace for disappointment now.
Ehh we've heard more about the Wii U pre-launch E3 than we did for the Wii. We didn't even know the controller this time 6 years ago.
They have clearly said that they weren't gonna show/say anything again until E3 2012 which is when they're gonna re-reveal the final system including games. That's why you don't even see a Wii U logo in trailers of confirmed 3rd party games like Darksiders 2 or AssCreed III. Reggie said they might share a few details before E3 but nothing major. That already happened when they had their last investor meeting where Iwata talked about the Nintendo Network and the NFCfeatures of the controller.

Give it some time. Nintendo is doing the right thing by taking its time and not trying to push things.
Exactly. They've taken an extra 5 years to release a system that's on par with the 360 and PS3.
They aren't behind. They're just "taking their time."
@solarisdeschain: Graphics are already fine on the 360, they just need 1080p standard but upscale to 4k, DX11, better anti-aliasing and lighting. I think the 360 will be a big jump up though, like Xbox - Xbox 360
@Winternet: It's still March. Six months from now is September. You're an asshole if you think September is 'Holliday Season'. Nintendo are not the type of company that is afraid to put out a product weeks or even days before Christmas. They know it'll sell out so timing doesn't matter for them as long as it's before Dec 25. It could still be 8 or 9 months away from release.
id imagine at e3 they will announce a holiday launch date. also i i guessing its pushed back into 2013 but anything can happen with nintendo

the wii was basically a repackaged gamecube, and did the 360/ps3 kill that? nope.

Remember this? Sweet.

I don't think the Wii-U will take off though, I think they saturated and burned out the casual market with the Wii. People who would want to maintain their Wii collection...their kids are older now and probably already upgraded to a better system. Wii only owners will probably stick with their Wii's sitting around and collecting dust, I don't see Wii only owners as desperate for the upgrade a new system will provide, their kids are hooked on their parents iPhones and iPads now, or internet games, and PS3/360 owners (even those with Wiis) will be pretty skeptical of Nintendo's under-powered systems - and they make up the actual gamers that the Wii-U's new found power would attract.
I also thought the Wii would never take off though...in fact I still don't get the Wii...track record here not so good.

They probably realize it's gonna be not good.
Uh, uh. They probably realize it's going to be such an incredible success that pushing the 'marketing' button right now would only serve to alienate the masses who so desperately want it now.
Yes.

Those predictions are wildly optimistic of you.

They got the casual audience, now they all play games on the iPad or Kinect. The Wii had the controller, this thing has a terrible tablet.

Not really, if Microsoft wants to have another 8 year cycle they got to put the power into it, id say it will cost $400 will still have the Xbox Live network so you can play the latest COD against people on 360s only your game looks way better, it will be like the launch of the 360 heaps of Xbox uprezed games.
I really REALLY hope that this console fails. Not because I don't like Nintendo, they will be fine either way. But all the Nintendo fanboys that I have heard talking about how the WII U will pretty much be the reincarnation of Jesus Christ makes me want to rage.

I hear that the Xbox 3 will be 10 times faster than the Xbox 360. FASTEST DISC DRAW EVER!
That is a joke based on how many different ways to compare consoles to each other there are, and how stupid terms like 40% more powerful are.

I just want Metroid on my Xbox. So I (kinda) hope the Wii U fails.
I still want my Nintendo handhelds though. Gah, it's a tough world.
Nintendo would sell off Retro before they got out of the console business, so don't expect any good Metroid games on your Xbox.
Seems odd that a lot of consoler owners seem obsessed with the Wii U probably not being a complete step-up from current console hardware.
From the E3 stuff when the Wii was announced it looked like a gaming platform that had more potential to be fun, from what we've seen of the WiiU, to me it looks like an updated Wii console with yet another peripheral controller hooked to it. Could be wrong on that but the games for the Wii at launch looked more like games than the WiiU based off what they've shown us.

And is there a ptoblem with what they're doing? i like that they're not trying to compete with Sony and Microsoft.

It might be a joke. Not particularly funny, though.

Also, you spelled 'holiday' wrong.

Six months is too soon to play the leak/tease game. HW is locked. One would want a large launch. It's one of the key metrics success is gauged by the powers that be. Judging by the tech and the specs, this one's most likely a wash. Maybe a big enough one to get them out of the hardware game.
I would love to be wrong.
