Of course, it's unlikely we'll know for sure until Tuesday morning's Nintendo press briefing. Even so, new variations are still emerging on the name even this late in the process. The most recent reports Game Informer is hearing, just two days before the show? It's possible the final name will be just a single word that everyone is already familiar with.

...pretty okay, if it's as good as everyone claims it is.

If it's something that they'd have a huge library of retro games, that would not be a bad name for it.

I bet it won't actually happen, but it's worth noting Game Informer's the original source for the Project Cafe rumors that turned out to be truthful.

This is how they get onto traditonal numbering conventions, i.e PS1, PS2, PS3.

That would be genius. Old people only know video games as the nintendo or the playstation. They would go even more mainstream

Nintendo HD isn't that bad a name, it fully highlights Ninty's break into HD gaming. As long as it's successor isn't the Nintendo HD 2 etc.

You know, I was coming around on the "don't worry about what a console is called, the names are all equally stupid" argument put forth on the Bombcast, but this is making me reconsider.

That is a pretty awesome name that gets right to the point.   I agree it does seem dark because calling it Nintendo seems so final. 

I actually think that'd be pretty cool.

What do you mean? I had an NES and I always invited my friend over to come play Nintendo with me. That's what we called it back in the day, so I think it's kinda cool that they are bringing it back, even though it seems a little forced over the moniker that the original system earned.

I don't think a company would put their giant valuable name on ONE thing. That's like putting all your eggs in one basket.
