I do agree the controller is huge and honestly quite ugly...but, I'll wait to see how the GB crew thinks since they'll probably have some hands on opinions about it in tonight GB Live show (really interested if Jeff groaned and muttered WHY??!!).
Wii U
Platform »
The Nintendo Wii U, the follow-up to the monstrously popular Nintendo Wii console, launched in North America on November 18th 2012.
The controller looks abysmal to hold.
Patrick's articles make the thing sound pretty great. I have to admit, if the other guys can back him up, I'll be way more interested in this.
The internet definitely has this one figured out. Nintendo spent all that time and money developing this controller and didn't even consider the comfort factor. Now, when it's already too late, the noble denizens of the internet, the pillars of society if you will, have brought to light this glaring issue.
Game over Nintendo.
Yeah, it looks kinda uncomfortable... But I'll reserve judgement until I actually get my hands on one. In any case, it's a million times better than a Wiimote/Nunchuck.
@Anwar: Yeah I think there are the two shoulder buttons up top, and underneath there is a ledge with 2 more triggers/buttons, so I'd say this has just about all the buttons of any other controller out there, but the touchscreen can add a lot more to that.
I guess we just have to wait and see.
I can hold the iPad 1 just fine, so if you make it a bit smaller, lighter, and a little thicker, then yeah, I can see this being perfectly usable.
I'm curious if my tiny hands can handle this.
The controller has pads or discs and not joysticks so I'm not sure how shooter fans are going to feel about that. I guess we can get used to anything, but the question is will we see a benefit in converting?Did you see the Zapper setup they had with the controller? Goodbye dual joysticks... (footage starts @ 2 minute mark)
When I first saw it I thought the same thing but the more I look at it and try to imagine holding it the more cautiously optimistic I become. First the size, I am a rather big guy so I actually think the size could end up being quite comfortable for me(think it could be awful for kids and small people though) Second the placement of the analog and face buttons at first I thought it was a horrible idea but I actually put my hands out in front of me and tried to put them about the same distance apart as the controller looks and played in my head and I think that the placement might be just fine.

@LunarAura: And if people hadn't complained about that, then we might have been stuck with it. What's your point?
My point is that they're listening for the most part so let's not bitch too much or else they'll just go the safe route and stick to features of their previous iteration.
We'll never know what pleasures a garishly silver PS3 and it's batarang could have done for us because we bitched too much without even touching one or seeing it in person. That's my point because I gotta spell it out for y'all. Peace.
The only thing I dislike so far is the thumbsticks, they should be below the buttons, not otherwise.

From what I've heard, because of the size of the controller, it's much more comfortable to hold with the thumbsticks higher.
That is what I am thinking. Take your hands in the normal controller position and then move them out as wide as the Wii U controller is and your thumbs become more upright.@Black_Rose said:

Yeah it might be cool using it as a touch screen or a smaller tv screen kind of thing but holding it looks so bad. I can't imagine holding it in a conformable way.
It's so giant and just a big rectangle. The buttons under the analog stick is a bad position, the bumpers are too high up, you can't rap your fingers around the trigger like a...trigger, it's more like a back button. I think of playing a game like Battlefield 3 or something like that on it and cringe. Am I the only one?
Well from multiple previews, apparently it's neither all that heavy, or awkward. So.... yeah.
