    Wii

    Platform »

The Nintendo Wii is a home video game console released on November 19, 2006. The Wii's main selling point was the innovative use of motion controls that its signature Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers allowed for. It became the best selling home console of its respective generation of hardware.

Anyone heard of plasma-TV's interfering with the Wii-remote?

I was just wonder upon experiencing just that...

I have a LCD-tv myself and haven't experienced this problem, but I had my Wii over at some friends house, and apparently the wii-remote can "lock on" to light from the plasma-TV instead of the sensor-bar, if you're directly in front of it. We did however solve this by hanging some mostly see-through fabric over the screen. Apparently that took what ever infrared light being emitted... or at least reduced it significantly for the wii-mote to only see the sensor-bar.

I thought nothing more of this and figured it was just a single freak occurrence with their pretty cheap Plasma-TV. However another friend of mine mentioned yesterday that his parents wii seem to have problem with aiming being inconsistent and jumping about. Since I know they have an 50" plasma, I told him about my first experience.

The thing that makes me wonder, is that a quick search on google doesn't seem to report of other people having noticed similar problems with using a Wii on a plasma-TV.

Just wondering if anybody has experienced something like this on their plasma set-up.

No, I own a 50 inch Plasma from VIzio, and I've never had that kind of problem, and I play my wii all the time, as a matter of fact it actually works better on my Plasma than it does on my 47 inch Samsung LCD. Has yoru friend been abusing his sensor bar?

I doubt it... after all it adult people we're talking about.
I haven't had a hands-on experience with the last mentioned friend's setup, so I haven't actually concluded that they have the same issue...
The first mentioned example was my own Wii and I'm fairly positive in my assessment.

Try changing the sensitivity in the settings. That doesn't change the speed of the cursor, it changes how much infared it picks up I think, so setting it low may make it so the TV's light is too low to "count" and only the sensor bar is tracked. This is the first time I hear of this issue too.

That settings screen should also show if it picks up more than just the two sensor bar lights, if more locations randomly blink or something.

That's actually a good point. I don't even know why I didn't do think of that when I was looking for the problem.
Instead I turned of the sensor-bar to get a visible cursor of the other light source and when I did, I commanded a girl-friend around telling her to stand in front of different possible light-sources, to find the "perpetrator" :-)
... Well, that was good fun too, so it wasn't a complete waste...

@EvilDingo: I'm having what appears to be the same problem with my Wii. I took my Wii to a party last week to play Guitar Hero. I got everything setup, but when it came time to play GH I ran into all kinds of problems. It appeared that there was a lag when I tried to strum the notes. I thought there was something wrong so I tried changing the sensor bar position, the sensitivity and the location of the actual Wii and nothing seemed to work. Brought the Wii home, connected it back to my TV (older CRT TV) and everything was perfect.

Today, bought my own plasma TV (50" Samsung) and my problems have returned. I have my sensor bar below the TV. It's sitting on the base of the TV a couple inches closer to me that the actual TV. Anything thoughts about whether or not the sensor bar position could be an issue?

Um, all the sensor bar is used for is the pointer's controls - via the infared camera embedded in the remote's front - and nothing more. The actual communication is unrelated bluetooth technology (unless the GH instruments use something else, but I doubt it). Therefor, even if you have infared interference from the TV, all that would be affected is the pointer functions, and "strumming" notes or other controls should all work.
