The Nintendo Wii is a home video game console released on November 19, 2006. The Wii's main selling point was the innovative use of motion controls that its signature Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers allowed for. It became the best selling home console of its respective generation of hardware.
Nintendo's Next Console Won't Arrive Before April 2012, Won't Be 3D
After confirming that we'll know what life is like after the Wii at E3 in June, Nintendo is beginning to talk a little bit more about their next console. Andriasang has translated reports from Bloomberg and Kyodo News, clarifying two pretty big question about the so-called Project Cafe: release date and 3D.
On the first point, Nintendo appears to have officially dismissed any rumors the next console would pull a surprise launch this year. The reason Nintendo has not included sales projects for Wii's successor in their financial projections, which outline until March 31, 2012, is because it's not coming until after April.
A release date after April 2012 would also jive with previous reports of a fall 2012 release date.
Secondly, despite Nintendo's embracing of the third dimension with 3DS, that won't be the case here. With 3DS, Nintendo can control the display--that's not the case with 3DTVs. As most consumers do not own 3DTVs, Nintendo cannot guarantee a 3D-focused console would find enough of an audience. It's out!
And so the wait continues.

" No 3D? Surprising "Not really, if you think about it. How would you pull this off in a profitable manner? Not everybody owns 3D capable TVs, and Patrick explained the other reasons.
This could have been a really relevant console release if it had come out this year. The later Nintendo puts this out, the less notable it will be.
Good on Nintendo for talking about this thing once the rumors started flooding in. I'm kind of excited, no real reason though.
I love 3D but I won't be getting a 3D TV for a LONG time so I don't really care. If everyone still cares about 3D for the console after Project Cafe, then enough people will have 3D TVs for this to even matter. There just aren't enough people with them the last time I looked.
3D gives me headaches. 3DTV is gimmicky and fickle.
" The only reason Sony is pushing HD is because they have TVs to sell. "I couldn't agree more.
I wonder what two things Nintendo is gonna tape together this time?
Can't Nintendo just tack-on 3D at a later date via a firmware update like Sony did? I can see it not being available out of the box, but I don't see much point in excluding the possibility at some point in the future.
the thought of new consoles makes me kinda sad in a way. im kinda liking the current gen and really dont know where they can really go from here. and i have no intrest in another gimmick
I'm not sure what to think of this. As huge of a success the Wii was I'm not that interested in what they are up too. I know there will be a mario platformer, a zelda adventure, maybe a metroid game. Mario party and kart for sure. I would like to see titles that aren't just known franchises. With the rumours of them support third parties has me hopeful. I loved Zack & Wiki and Boom Blox for the Wii.
Either way I do really hope Nintendo doesn't make the online a hassle like it has been so far.
I tried 3DS for the first time today and I was saddened by the cold, hard fact that the 3D gave me a horrific headache.
I'm glad it's not associated with Wii 2.

A next gen. is inevitable, Nintendo's next console isn't releasing before 2012 and Microsoft and Sony's new consoles will probably be released in 2013. If you don't want the current generation to go away, it still has plenty of time, even after Stream releases, and you'll still be able to play all of the current gen. games you missed out on after the Xbox 720 and PS4 are out.

Maybe if you head a good tv you might think differently :D
At this point the current gen is really showing it's age, a year or two from now the minimum quality settings on a PC AAA game will be the best the ps3 or 360 could hope for.
uh... this is dumb. because it can be easily implemented into any video game just like sony does with PS3
" thanks patrick youre way better than brad nicholson "Harsh. You can't really compare the two and they focus on two different areas of video game news. Patrick is more insider/behind the scenes news while Brad is more press release news. Plenty of room on the site for both of them.
Ultimately, expect more information at E3, and expect Microsoft and Sony to rapidly announce competing consoles.
As a PC gamer, I can say with confidence that we've definitely hit a graphics plateau. I don't know if it's a genuine graphics plateau or the age of the current consoles stunting graphics, but I suspect the former. This next generation of consoles will show one way or another which theory is right.
"Ten year cycle eh? "
You can have a new console and the Wii can still have a 10 year cycle.
Well that's great news, I was worried this decade wouldn't start off with any new console and perhaps Nintendo's move will motivate Sony and Microsoft to follow suit.
