The Nintendo Wii is a home video game console released on November 19, 2006. The Wii's main selling point was the innovative use of motion controls that its signature Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers allowed for. It became the best selling home console of its respective generation of hardware.

What does the next Metroid game need?

Online multiplayer would be nice.   Call of Duty World at War did a pretty good job substituting it.

All of the comments from last night seem to indicate that the way the 3D Metroid games are designed are perhaps too much like the 2D ones. To the idiot who said "no more backtracking", it's Metroid, it doesn't have linear levels, it has a mult-branching world with ability-based access points, so shut the hell up.

And to the dude with the long post, obviously Metroid Prime 1 didn't do enough to encourage the player to do any experimenting because YOU CAN KILL THE CHOZO GHOSTS WITH SUPER MISSILES.

And there was nothing at all bad about Metroid Prime 2, except the way new areas were opened after boss fights, they need to find a more organic way of having boss fights open up new areas of the game.

It should be a side scroller or a third-person, perhaps over the shoulder shooter. I never understood why they went from it being a side scroller to being an FPS. :|

The reason I liked Dead Space was because of the Metroid feel it had. In many ways it is just like Metroid (mostly solo mission in space, space ship self destruction, great alien boss battles, cool futuristic weapons). The aliens are actually scary (as they should be, they're F***ing aliens). Also you could jump from wall to wall in zero gravity.

Aliens should be organic, zerg like in Metroid games, constantly changing, scary and unpredictable.

The problem I see with Metroid is you don't feel exposed enough. It feels like you have kid gloves on. Here you are fighting Space Pirates, Metroids, all manner of aliens and you've got this Ironman suit on that makes you basically invulnerable to all but the most tough skinned boss. Where are the Metroid equivalents to Hydralisks, Ultralisks and just all-around scary big monsters. Samus needs to be running away from indestructible or just plain tough opponents like the ones in Metroid Fusion (for GBA).

I also want to see Samus be able to do more than move. If she was able to lean left and right and do crazy maneuvers like from P.N.03 where you duck while firing. She should have cool gadgets that enable her to fly short distances (not just her ship).

Weapon options aren't numberous enough: you got missles, power bombs, and plasma (of varrying colors).
Why not let Samus use her Grappling hook, punches and kicks too for combat ()?
Why not include laser beams too? Rail guns? Both laser beams and rail guns are futuristic (and powerful) weapons.

Weapons that are supposed to blow stuff up should be that way on more than just certain materials. Power Bombs should cause damage to everything nearby, Missles should break holes through walls, and plasma should burn enemies. For this reason Power Bombs and Missles should be scarce. Plasma could have a matter to energy option to create 'lesser' missles if you really need them (at the expense of your health).

Just like in the comic Power Bombs should heal you.

Visors and for the sake of immersion. Are you going to honestly sit here and question putting the game in first person after seeing Samus' reflection on the screen after a bright explosion?

ALSO, JUST BECAUSE IT WAS IN FIRST PERSON, (half the time), doesn't mean it was a shooter! God dammit some people need to think before posting.

And to gam3r, craploads of the stuff you mentioned have already been done. Power bombs can heal you IN SUPER METROID, THAT'S WHERE THE IDEA CAME FROM IN THE COMIC BOOK!

Also, in Super Metroid and Metroid Prime 3, THE GRAPPLING HOOK WAS USED FOR COMBAT!

I am starting to regret posting this thread, so many people contributing to it asking for features that ARE ALREADY PRESENT

The next metroid would need to incorporate an arsenal of whole new weapons and gadgets to be successful in multiplayer or at least add some extra depth to the MP, but I would totally love some multiplayer. If its online, that would be even better but I hope w/e nintendo console the game comes out on can provide good, quality online. No lag and more fully-featured. Call of Duty WaW MP was great but it was crazy how stripped that game was on the multiplayer side on the Wii.

Lots of different beam attacks with their own repective properties (like ice-beam freezing dudes, etc) would go along way for a good Metroid MP experience. A good blend of old/new beam mechanics.

Also, wouldn't it be cool if in multiplayer instead of having everyone be Samus in different colors, you could customize your power-suit in a visual and gameplay altering way. Like, buy upgrades that change how your arm cannon works and looks. Maybe one upgrade could be a change in your energy-shot pattern. Another upgrade could be towards your suit armor that changes a part of it visually and gives it for example, a higher defense against ice attacks or a part on your suit that vents out extremely cold air that freezes enemies who get too close. IDK, stuff like that. The MP should be unique a bit.

I was aware that you could kill the chozo ghosts with missile-based badness, but I found the general rule was they still took too much time to kill. They were an utter pain before you got the X-ray visor.

I was using that  as an example. Another example would include some of the later pirates in Echoes.

My issue isn't the power of the enemies, but the games lack of letting you bypass them. In the 2Dimensional Metroids, you could always run from an enemy. Not so much in the later stages of the 3D games.

"If the next Metroid does turn out to be an FPS once again, I hope they revamp the shooting mechanics. When shooting your energy attacks in prime, it never really felt impactful. It felt like some really weak weapon. I say revamp that by changing the look of the energy shots to something more powerful looking and adding more controller feedback (rumble).Something I would really like to see is a redesign to Samus's Power Suit. Not a total redesign, like keep the color and basic structure but add more detail to the suit. Though, I think the arm-cannon totally needs to be redesigned. Given that Samus's right arm is on-screen so much, a new arm-cannon design would be nicely refreshing. Both just small nit-picks I guess."

The shooting mechanics is another issue of the 3D games. They removed the stackable beams, and therefore the massive power boost you got, from the game and replaced it with the 4 way selector. When Corruption turned out, they removed the selector, but still neutered the power of the weapon. In endgame 2D, you were a battle tank, you so much glanced at an enemy and they were a charred husk. It, again, made backtracking easier.

The xray visor in corruption lets you one shot most basic enemies, and you have so much health they're merely pests.
