The Wii 2 is officially being worked on and it appears that Miyamoto's final idea for Nintendo will be Wii Music.

The Nintendo Wii is a home video game console released on November 19, 2006. The Wii's main selling point was the innovative use of motion controls that its signature Wii Remote and Nunchuk controllers allowed for. It became the best selling home console of its respective generation of hardware.
Wii 2 in production/Miyamoto's last idea
here is the real story
Yeah, KingBroly is right. Miyamoto said that when they were creating the Wii he had the idea for 3 different games that became Wii Sports, Wii Fit and Wii Music, the latter completes the production of all his creations.
"Usually once a console has been finished, ideas and developement begin for the next one."Yeah. Plans on the next console usually begin right after the previous one launches. Of course they are thinking of ideas for their next console but it's definitely years away from anything tangible.
I highly doubt Miyamoto is out of ideas. And im thinking its REALLY big dick move to even think of making a Wii 2. Theyve treated their core gamers like garabge and the E3 conference showed that. Im not trying to bring up something everybody knows again, but I really dont think they should start Wii 2 until they've made more, better games (another Zelda, mario perhaps, etc.)

"Y'think the Wii 2 will be called WiiWii?No, it'll be called "Wii Ni" because Ni (pronounced nee) is 2 in Japanese.
"
Anyway, its no surprise that the wii 2 is being worked on. It has probably been worked on long before the wii came out. The same MS and Sony. As for Miyamoto, the quote says for the wii, not overall, and even using that, I suspect mistranslation. He probably said something like its the most recent thing he is working on, meaning he isn't working on anything else behind the scenes currently, but doesn't mean he won't in the future.
It's not much surprise. But a lot of people are talking about it now and it's a bit annoying. The Wii is still here and has plenty left to do. I hope the next console doesn't come for at least 3 years yet.
The Wii 2 isn't in developement yet, Nintendo are just brainstorming. Like I said, usually once a console has been finished, ideas and developement begin for the next one.
This doesn't mean there will be another Nintendo console out by the end of this year, or even the next. Sit tight and enjoy your Wii...
He never said it was his last idea, he said it was last original idea for the wii, that he conceived at the time of the Wii's production. Now that he has used all of his original Wii ideas he will have to come up with some new ones, possibly new IPs.
The Wii is far from being done. The DS is what, 6 years old? The thing keeps selling so they keep selling it. I think the same thing will happen with the Wii. They may be in the process of coming up with Wii 2, but I doubt we'll see it any time in the near future. They probably have the new DS done by now, or close, they're just waiting for the DS sales to drop a bit more before unveiling it.

With that said, the Wii 2 won't be out for at least 4-5 years, especially if the Wii keeps up this momentum.
