Overview

Hydlide II: Shine of Darkness is a top-down high-fantasy action RPG developed and published by T&E Soft for NEC PC-88 computers exclusively in Japan on October 1985, with conversions for the Sharp X1, MSX, FM-7, and Sharp MZ in 1986.

The second installment of the Hydlide series and the sequel to the original Hydlide, Hydlide II returns players to Fairy Land as a pure boy brought over from the real world to seal away the land's evil "Consciousness". It introduces several new gameplay features, the most notable of which is the "FORTH" morality system that changes the player's reputation among townsfolk based on the types of creatures they kill (which grants or restricts new clues and opportunities).

The PC-88 version was later brought to the Nintendo Switch by D4 Enterprise, digitally and worldwide, on April 18, 2024 as part of the EGG Console series.
