The Moaning Words began on Kickstarter in 2013 and met its $20,000 goal (reaching $20,314 with over 237 backers). The game was avalaible as a freemium app for the iPhone and Android. Written by Science Fiction author Alan Dean Foster, The Moaning Words was a dark investigation composed of 18 episodes released daily. With hours of gameplay and reading, this investigation was packed with many innovative features:

• Interactive storytelling
• Social reading and cooperation
• Narrative card games
• Illustrated riddles

The iPhone version was officially released on September 26, 2014 with mixed to good reviews. Unfortunately, on April 11, 2017, the french developer Byook announced on Facebook that they were discontinuing the game due to financial issues. The game was removed from the app store and the servers were shut down soon after.
