This is the most bizzare problem I've had with any game. I was trying to debug the issues with crashes and freezing and hoping the developer console would tell me more what's going on. It ended up corrupting my save game, and also the corrupted save was synchronized to the Steam cloud, so now I can't even play anymore because it keeps downloading the corrupted save.

My only option was to refund the game! (Or so I thought. Is there any way to delete cloud saves? )

Hmm. That's messed up! One thing that might have worked would be logging into Steam's offline mode, deleting the game's save file, and starting a new game. In theory, the next time you log into Steam properly and try to play Wolfenstein, it'll notice a disparity in the save files and ask if you want to keep the one on your computer or download the one from the cloud.

That's how I fixed a corrupted Plants vs. Zombies cloud save a few years ago.

@steevl: Actually, it was my entire user profile in the game that got corrupted somehow. I deleted everything in the Saved Games folder, but the same profile got redownloaded on next restart. What happened next was some cryptic error message "MESSAGE TYPE NOT DEFINED" and the entire main menu had disappeared. So your advice, while good info for other games, would probably not have worked in this case, sadly.

I've already posted twice in this thread, so I will be concise. I have found that going to my Steam library, pushing play for Wolfenstein 2 and choosing Safe-mode in the box, has gotten me into the game. My settings seem the same as before, with the constraints of 1080 and full screen. I accept this (for the moment), many of you won't like it. But it looks okay and is very playable.

Yikes! That is so messed up.

Another thing you could try is disabling the cloud entirely, which I forgot that you could do. Right click on the game, go to properties, go to the Updates tab, and uncheck the Steam cloud synchronization box. Then try deleting your saved games folder again. And if you're still getting that weird error message, you should probably have Steam verify the integrity of the game cache. There's gotta be a way to get the game back to working order.

    If not, that really sucks!

@pkmango7: I heard the same thing about turning off Async Computing but for some weird reason I don't have that as an option in advanced video settings. I can see it listed in the GeForce Experience app when I look at optimised settings but of course that doesn't let me adjust settings manually there. Really weird.

Will try running it in windowed borderless tonight and see if that helps.

You can try looking in the config file to see whether it's on or off (1 or 0). It also disappeared from my in-game options after I disabled it.

Only issue I am seeing is the Steam overlay doesn't seem to work? Outside of that I have had zero freezes or crashes. Game runs buttery smooth.

Game seems a bit buggy but have not had in game crashes. Or not random ones anyway. I had problems with it not fitting on one monitor. Simple fix to override DPI scaling in compatibility. But took a bit of googling to get that fixed. Other problem I had was I tried to move to monitor 2. Bought a really nice new HDR TV I have hooked up to my PC. That blue screened my PC twice, and now the game has a graphics glitch with black lines/vsync chop moving up and down over couple inches at 2160p. Works fine at lower resolutions?! I even uninstalled, and tried to look for a settings folder in documents. It is still there after reinstall. Running GTX 1080.

The overlay should be working as of a few days ago. It didn't work at launch, but a recent patch enabled it.

I'm having a nightmare with this, which is absurd considering I'm running it on an i7, 1080 TI and 32gb of RAM. Screen tearing, menu errors, broken textures and now a corrupt game save that has wiped all collectibles and crashes if I 'continue' instead of 'load' from the main menu.

Loving the actual game but I'm starting to regret picking it up day one.

Game has locked up twice in the first 90 minutes, both times directly after a cutscene. Not a great start. Single display, most settings on high or highest.

Also what's with all the warnings before adjusting graphical settings, even for something such as FOV? Saw some strange artefacts in the U-boat level but generally this game looks really fucking sharp. After playing through The New Order and The Old Blood immediately prior, this is a real step up in the visual department. The character models and lighting especially.

I just finished this on an i7 and a 980 Ti (driver version 382.53) without any issues. My suggestion to any Nvidia users would be to roll back your drivers and see if that does anything for you; I usually refrain from updating unless a game is totally broken on launch, possible minor FPS bump be damned.

We should be able to pause during cutscenes, and they should get rid of those damn black bars during them.

I've had very few problems with it. I had to update to the newest drivers to get it to run initially, but after that the only problem I've had is that a couple of times it continued to run in the background after I quit the game. And that's after 14 hours and finishing the game.

I hate when this happens. Some people have had no problems and others can barely play it. I'd rather the word of mouth to be all or nothing. Now I just feel like my best bet would be to get this on Ps4, but I'd rather play on my Pc. It wouldn't be a problem if this game wasn't so good.

This game really needed to be tested more. I was so excited and yes the story has fun stuff in it and the game is cool (i'm enjoying it). But it is so buggy. I get glitches where I throw/swing the axes for no reason. Also the game does not save your mouse sensitivity. You will find this out the hard way when you feel like its really off. Just lots of things in the game that should have been smoothed out and tested more. It is certainly rough around the edges. The sneaking is not good, too.

They rolled out some patches a couple days ago. Pre-patch, the only issue the game was giving me was tiny black specks sometimes appearing on complex textures and facial animations. I have an Nvidia card and I noticed it tended to appear in a lot of the drivers from this year. The fact that it also happened in this game was a disappointment, but the patch really seemed to smooth everything out.

I played this at launch and had no other problems, though I am bummed out that a lot of others didn't have as good experience on PC as I did. For me, this and Doom ran like magic thanks to that magical engine known as id Tech 6.

Everything running smooth on 'Mein Leben' settings @1080p and the gameplay is even more fun than New Order, THOUGH when I Alt-Tab the game freezes and I can't alt-tab back into it, something I don't remember being the case for New Order or Old Blood. Thankfully the steam overlay works well.

After the patch that added the 'Episode 0' dlc I can alt-tab in and out just fine. Also something I forgot to mention was that sometimes when I pick up a collectible and then press 'J' straight away, the game would crash with the error message that says something like "Could not write dump file". Though after this patch that never happens anymore. Currently having fun with Wyatt on my 2nd play through. 'I am death incarnate' difficulty isn't too hard once you get the armor piercing upgrade for the assault rifle and you know the level layouts.

I am still experiencing an infuriating amount of crashes. My menu sometimes bugs out when I pause it, it crashes if anything else happens in the background (updates for other programs, Windows Night Light turning on, having FOOBAR running, etc.). It's bizarre because, aside from the crashes, the game is fantastic. Everything is maxed out by default and I haven't seen a single dip in FPS, it's just maddeningly unstable.

My most recent frustration is the mission where you need to find a certain crew member on your ship. Anything I do that causes a load will crash the game. At first, I thought that maybe it was just following the critical path that was fucking me up, but even trying to load out to an Uberkammando mission will crash the game (hard lock, black screen, have to reboot entire PC). I've tried verifying the file integrity. I'll keep this post updated with what I try to do to fix it, but man, what a fuckin bummer. Just a stone wall in what is otherwise the video game equivalent of a page-turner.

EDIT: Verified files. Tried bunches of different settings options. Tried alternate paths. Tried rolling back drivers. All still cause a hard lock which means I need to reboot my PC. I'm going to put in a request for a refund until this is fixed. The only other game that has given me this much trouble to run is Fallout 3.

I had to give up and get a refund on it because no matter what fix I tired or what settings, it crashed after the intro with BJ's dad. Every time. It's a brand new computer with an i5 7300 (low I know), a 1050TI, and 8GB RAM. I wasn't exactly expecting to be able to crank any settings above medium at best but it would have been nice if I could have gotten it to run at all.

Now I have to debate buying more RAM, just trying again and hoping a patch fixed the problem, and getting the Xbox version.

Performance wise it has run smooth as hell for me personally. I did however have 3 crashes that resulted in a "Could not write crash log" box. One time was actually after i quit the game. Some seem to think the issue is tied to intel integrated graphics, and others say its to do with the Windows DIP settings. Who knows, but despite that its been great.

Just want to give a pro tip to anyother Nvidia users who might not be getting the performance they want: Make sure Deferred Rendering is turned on. From what I gather this is a Nvidia backend feature that is turned off by default since this is an AMD branded game. Turning it on for me gave me about an extra 4-6 fps. It turned the tide from the game being mostly 60fps with some frequent dips into the low 50's depending on what was in view, to a completely solid locked in 60fps.

My game has been made more and more broken by the successive updates and new nvidia drivers. After the first round I got Could Not Write to Crash Dump and now added to that I'm having random models flip out and artifact and destroy the framerate entirely.

It was flawless when it first came out and now I think my window for playing it is gone.

I decided to give this game a second chance, and it works! Just finished the game with zero issues encountered. Performance was excellent.

No idea what ultimately fixed it, but probably a combination of patches to OS, drivers, and game. The OS and driver version that is currently working for me: Windows 10 1709 (16299.125), Geforce 388.59 driver.
