Poll Which of the contraption did you choose? (minimal spoilers, maybe) (304 votes)
Just curious which one you all picked. I went with the Ram Shackles, personally.

I saved the game and tried all of them, before ending up on Ram Shackles. That one definitely wasn't the stealth pick, but I kinda failed most of my stealthing attempts anyway. I didn't really get that much out of the Shackles either, was too busy just shooting nazis to bits instead of knocking them over.
Constrictor Harness was definitely the goofiest.
Ramshackles. Charging Nazis like a football player is too good to pass up, even if I rarely actually use it.
I admittedly rolled my eyes a little when they immediately gave a bunch of doorways that can be passed with any of the three powers, all three entryways right next to each other and equally noticeable. Not exactly Deus Ex there.
Ram shackles. When I charged a commandant and he completely gibbed all over the place, I knew that I had made the right choice.
Ram Shackles but I completely forgot to ever use it against the Nazis. Man now I have to replay some missions and try it out.
I went for the harness, I test the walker at first but it seemed kind of janky in the training area? or I just didn't get use to them before giving up?
Battle walker. None of the actual contraptions seemed too useful to pass up, and the perk that makes overcharged health not deplete till you take damage is nice to have; even though I haven't really been dying, not feeling as compelled to scour maps for health is worth it alone, if only for soothing my more compulsive instincts.
Also feel like the walker gives the most extra mobility. I've gotten onto some random otherwise inaccessible ledges and roofs and such (outside of the obvious here's-three-options-for-each-contraption-pick-yours moments) that've given me some nice vantage points for fights, and at other points it's been nice to be able to skip running around to find stairs and just double jumping up (in essence). But again, the game doesn't really demand that you use that added mobility, so it mostly just gives you a couple extra options.
I picked Battle Walker before knowing what the perks even were, turns out it actually had the best ones (health regen and no overcharged health decay, time slow on weapon wheel). Even without knowing that, it just seemed like the most practical.
Constrictor harness then immediately laughed in uncomfortable terror when I squeezed in that pipe. I am so glad it does not ever show that outside of first person.
I'm using the ram shackles but I don't feel like I can actually plow through dudes or obstacles like advertised. I just ram into one thing and slow down. It's very awkward when they want you to ram through a stack of boxes and you have to take multiple runs at it to break each box. Is this happening for everyone or am I missing something?

No, that seems to be how it is. I thought the same thing.
I went with the Walker. It doesn't seem to offer as many options for getting around, but I wouldn't trade the perks for anything. Also its kinda fun to just be a Tall Boy.
I chose the Ram Shackles but I’m kinda regretting it as it’s the designated “loud” option. Now the game has been quite literally locking away entry points behind these gadgets so doing a stealth run is difficult when you have no other choice but to burst through a wall grate.
In retrospect I would have chosen the battle walker instead as the perks seem better.
@humanity: I feel like I would regret going if Ram Shackles if I were on any difficulty other than super duper easy. I think the Walker would have been more useful in "real" gameplay. But since I am on easy mode, running out into the middle of a firefight and shoulder checking a Nazi officer into red mist is never not satisfying.
What a good video game.
I chose the Battle Walker because I play on the easiest mode and frankly being a giant death dealing BJ on stilts was too fun to pass up. Enemies will call out "He's on a battle walker!!" and it's just wonderful.
Battle Walker by a mile. The aesthetics alone are fantastic. One regret is that it made my favourite weapon, the shotgun, pretty impractical. But on the other hand, sniping became easier since I could get very high up, very quickly. And honestly, nothing beats turning a corner into an intersection of Nazis on battle stilts; I wish there was some kind of stomp mechanic included. Finally, the stilts made it pretty easy to get up to guys who were taking potshots at you from above too.
@meissnerd: The sounds it made were soooooo good
The Walker. I never realised the perks it came with till after I chose but the perks make it completely worthwhile!
I chose the Ram Shackles, which were fun, but bummed me out when I realized it blew my stealth on levels when I had to use it.
On the other hand, you can get the other two contraptions in the assassination missions, and I believe you get access to those pretty soon after you get the first contraption.
I haven't found a moment where I can get a kill while using the constrictor yet.
@steevl: On the first assassination mission that they give you for free (without cracking an enigma code) You can find the constrictor. I killed the dude by creeping through a vent right behind him and stabbing him with the hatchet.
@meissnerd: if you jump while the walkers are activated and press the crouch button, you do the ground pound thing you learn at the beginning of the game. Can do it pretty much anywhere, as long as you have the headroom for it.

Ah, I remember that mission. Unfortunately, I found the constrictor after I killed the target. Oh well! I can't remember which one it was.
The constrictor would have been a no brainier, if it weren't for the downside of losing health while it's activated. The other 2 have their faults, but no where near as bad/pointlessly punishing. Ended up going for the battle walker, which has been pretty cool so far.
For what it's worth, the constrictor does not immediately make your health tick down while using it. I'm not sure how long it takes before your health starts ticking down, though.
Ram Shackles but I immediately regret it because it seems like you are funneled at certain sections to use one of the three to get to the next section and the ram shackles always instantly alert the commanders. Playing on hard, this kinda sucks.
I like to play these games in a stealthy way, so I picked the Constrictor Harness. Was fun to look for alternate routes and get behind or past enemies.

I don't know. It's kind of refreshing actually. When I bust through a door and realize I just set off an alarm I start running like a madman with dual shotguns out. Every nazis I come across just get a leg or a head blown off. Works great in the more enclosed spaces this usually happens in.
As a few others mentioned, I picked the Battle Walker. When I had the choice, I debated what was the dumbest thing I could pick and I thought and figured walking on stilts would be it and I would never "need" to use it. I regretted it every time it was needed and wished I had the more obvious ramming thingy. The body compressor was a close second, but making it seem timed and me wanting to look around at everything made me worry I would end up dead from squishing myself.
@rongalaxy: oh my god thank you
