I just want to applaud the artists behind the females this year

For whatever reason, it seems to be more of a challenge to get women looking like proper women in video games than it is for men.

I just want to take a moment to applaud how much has improved in the female roster since just last year. Out of pretty much anything in 2k18 that's been improved, this is the area I've noticed the utmost improvement, especially with Dana Brooke and Carmella

Just sharing this comparison shot with real life Dana Brooke and 2k18 Dana Brooke.

The resemblance is pretty excellent

And sure, the hair could always use some work, I hear that, perhaps next year we'll see Hair 2.0 ;)

Are you serious? Alexa Bliss looks like something that would've come from a monster factory episode.

They're still publishing these games on PS3/360?

New graphics engine is finally being implemented in this game, the lighting looks fantastic compared to last years game, but the base models still need work and they need to find a way to make hair look better urgently.

I don't think those look good at all. The hair in particular is terrible.

Hmm interesting, I have no idea what everyone else is looking at but I have no issues with these new models, at least for the ones there are screenshots of anyways.

Anyways, never said they looked perfect, or better than most others, but that it's a drastic improvement over last years. At least this year, they mostly resemble their real life counterparts instead of cheap $2 children's dolls

At the same time I'm wondering if it's not completely obvious that this is supposed to be comparing last years to this years? Last years on the left, this years on the right?

The first two are marked improvements, the last one still looks weird but not anything like a Monster Factory.

I don't like to defend the 2K/Smackdown series but Triple H gave up on himself and that's a FACT!

They gave up

I fully believe the only reason HHH shaved his hair was because of these games.

I'm really interested in seeing if the Legends received a similar makeover this year as the models for certain ones (Andre, Savage, Sid, etc.) were awful.

Unfortunately they're still using current facial scans for younger versions of guys, or at least they are in Angle's case....something which was a huge problem with Hulk Hogan's model in 2K15. Old man Hogan's face on the Hulkster circa-1990 was lame. Especially when they had perfect models of his various eras back in Smackdown vs. Raw 2007.

HHH gave up on videogames when he shaved of his hair.

yeah but that's understandable though right? like, you cant scan Angles face right now and just implant that into his old gear to make his younger version. The amount of modifiation needed necessary for those models, may as well start from a cube again lol

No, it's actually pretty inexcusable given they could just pull in pictures of the wrestlers from an earlier era and have their artists model the face further depending on how much it had changed over the decades and then apply the appropriate facial hair. The tech is there, it's even available to the player, there were CAWs last year that looked just as good as 2K's roster and in some cases better thanks to the logo and texture options. Most of the Legends aren't scanned anyway (a good portion of them are unfortunately dead), 2K just chose to cut corners and the results are pretty infuriating.

This is what was advertised....and what we got...

I must admit, the community creations are interestingly phenominal quality, and I agree with that statement "there were CAWs last year that looked just as good as 2K's roster and in some cases better".

I hope this new graphics engine doesn't gut all the CAW options like the game a couple years ago did. I finally got my CAWs looking all pretty!

Avatar image for redactedprofile

@bocckob: The improvement in the graphics engine is purely in the rendering pipeline, it's not a complete engine overhaul. That's what happened a few years ago, the migration from the Predator Engine that powered the WWE 'XX series got replaced with 2k Sports ECO-Motion technology, and a lot of the assets had to be rebuilt as they were completely incompatible
