Activision Publishing, Inc. (NASDAQ:ATVI) has released new details on X-Men Origins: Wolverine, whose titular hero is one of the most popular Marvel characters of all time. The video game, scheduled for release in May 2009, coincides with the global debut of Twentieth Century Fox's release of its feature film, X-MEN ORIGINS: WOLVERINE, which is also based on the famous Marvel character.

From the award-winning studio Raven Software, the video game enlists players to experience the tormented origins of Wolverine, from his escape of the Weapon X facility to the jungles of and beyond. The game is currently in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 , PC, Wii , Nintendo DS, PlayStation2 and PSP and is not yet rated by the ESRB.

I remember when I played X2: Wolverine's Revenge. That game sucked. I can't remember a good X-Men game since Rise of Apocalypse for the GBA. I also have fond memories of Mutant Academy 2 for the PS1.....

I just read a preview in EGM that came today... well, I'm still reading it, I skimmed over it, looks promising. I'll stay tuned.

I don't see this as a potential success, most games developed along side their corresponding movies are not.

The only good X men games was when they are fighting street fighter characters. Well that and marvel ultimate alliance was passable. Still none of them was tied to a movie.

Hoping for a good Wolverine game because Hugh Jackman is awesome.

This game is going to be incredible.

I really hope that this game will turn out to be good because Wolverine has always been one of my favorite characters in the Marvel universe. But I fear that it'll turn out to be just as crappy as any other movie-tie-in game.
