X Men Origins Wolverine Review
For a long time, Wolverine fans have clamored for a game which makes you truly feel like Wolverine. Raven (developer of Marvel Ultimate Alliance) has delivered on such a game with X Men Origins Wolverine.
First off, the main part of the game, the combat, is gory and somewhat deep. More combos are unlocked by upgrading your claws. You can also upgrade your max health, rage, and also the duration and damage of your rage attacks. There is also a lunge ability, which you can use to attack enemies at long distances. One of the best things about this game are the bosses. There is only one boss that is not in the movie, not counting the Leviathan and W.E.N.D.I.G.O prototype minibosses. All bosses are entertaining and fun. Halfway through the game, a large amount of puzzles are presented to you. The puzzles aren't very enjoyable, and very repetitive, and the main two puzzle types are Wolverine pulling or pushing objects onto buttons or moving a teleporter to move forward. The platforming isn't very pulled off well, mostly due to bad set cameras.
The story of X Men Origins Wolverine loosely follows the plot of the movie, and also expands on the mission in Africa to add some characters to the game. There are two plotlines happening in the game, the mission in Africa and Wolverine chasing down his brother, Victor Creed and Colonel William Stryker. The mission in Africa is presented through flashbacks, which are accesed by a named character alluding to an event in Africa during the main story of the game.
The presentation isn't the best part of the game, with the framerate lowering greatly if there is alot of action happening on the screen. There is some clipping and ragdoll glitches in the game, but the character models are designed quite well. The bosses look detailed and animate well. The voice acting is good, with only Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Liev Schreiber (Sabretooth), and Will.I.Am (John Wraith) reprising their roles in the game from the movie.
If you have wanted a game where you want to release the brutal rage held within the main character, "snikt" out your claws and pick up this game.
