     Mamotte Knight

    No Caption Provided

Japanese videogame music maestro, Yuzo Koshiro (ActRaiserStreets of Rage & Ys), in conjunction with his development studio Ancient, have created a 2D 8-bit styled Famicom action RPG for XBOX LIVE Indie Games, called "Mamotte Knight"  - "Protect Me Knight"

In Mamotte Knight, players select a knight from one of four jobs and make use of barricades to protect the princess from monsters. As you defeat the attacking beasts, you'll earn "love points" from the princess which can be used to upgrade your barricades and increase your character's skills. According to the games website, the game will support four player simultaneous play.

In line with the games visuals, the music in Mamotte Knight also has a distinct 8-bit flavour. Koshiro-san has handled the games music himself.

The game launches in Japan later the Spring, I for one am hoping this comes to West, and to WiiWare also, if the conversion of code is no major hurdle.

Ancient has a PC demo of Mamotte Knight  available at the game's official site, via it's download section, however, you'll need to have the XNA 3.1 Runtime Library installed on your PC in order to run it.

The games official site has video of the game in action:

Looks neat!  If it comes West side and has a reasonable price, I'll check it out.

This makes me sad how poorly Microsoft handles indie games and the likelihood this'll be swept under the rug. Thanks for the info, Linky.

I wish the Wii had something like the indie stuff. :( I'd so get on that.

I'd prefer to get this on Wii for obvious reasons (Famicom style), but I'm not fussed, I'd be happy just to play it.

So it'ls like a mix of a tower defense game, with the princess being the tower, and a beat em up like Castle Crashers?

    Looks pretty sweet to me.

EDIT: Just looked at the video of this game in action. This is a MUST BUY for me now!!

They may not have a completely open platform like that but it's probably the easiest system to get approved for and has the cheapest SDK. If they wanted these guys, considering they're an actual studio, could probably get it approved for WiiWare swiftly. Lesser groups have done.

    Anyway, looks neat.

Looks really cool. I'd definately buy it. I'm really hyped up for all sorts of 8-bit games now that I've got Dark Void Zero. Please port it to PC.

I'd download the demo and play it now if xna3.1 was compatible with Windows 7, sadly it appears not to be :(

Dark Void Zero asked you to blow the cartridge (not even telling you to press a button, I suppose some people who first got it on dsi might have gone "huh?").

I love the beginning, but I am not that interested in it just because it looks very repetitive and there are games that i could get for free that are more or less exactly the same.

Hopefully more people check this game out as it really deserves more love. It's just such a wonderful combination of action and charm and the light tower defense elements give it a unique edge.

How weird that I would see this thread just now, seeing as how I JUST downloaded the trial yesterday. It looks totally cool.

Another GREAT game that's styled like an 8-bit RPG is Soulcaster. Awesomely creative way to make your characters like a mobile tower defense.
