I hate how slow everything is on the 360. You hit the button on your controller and it's feels so sluggish to even just check which friends are online or what achievements are left in a game. Hopefully this improves on that because it's pretty damn terrible right now.

The Xbox 360 is the second game console produced by Microsoft Corporation and is the successor to the original Xbox.
Checking Out Xbox 360's Latest Coat of Dashboard Paint
Really, they need to stop "fixing" their dash and moving things around. They're like a little kid picking at a scab.
Also, I'm glad they chose bright white so when I turn that shit on a night I have to squint my eyes and adjust the brightness on my tv.
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this before, but if Microsoft would release just a mic for the 360 with none of that Kenect ballyhooI would be way into that. I love the idea of voice controlled menus, but I don't need me some crazy motion sensing crap.
Beacons just missed being what I wanted. If you could have set them for all of Live, then they would single-handedly add a long-tail to small multiplayer games. Right now you need a critical mass to keep a game being played. Since you have to turn a game on and search for games. Once people start getting failures on that, they stop trying. But if you had a way to flag that 4-year old niche title, you'd have a chance all of a sudden. I get that for popular games, an all-of-Live setting would be worse than useless, but it would mean the world to small games.i like this, you could go to a beacon section, find the game you want to play and next to it is list of other gamertags of people who are currently wanting or planning a game
Since the only thing I really care about using on my 360 is the 'play game' function of it, I approve of any change that gets me into a game quicker without dumping me on a 'spotlight' page or moving the 'quick lauch' option further away.
Another redesign? You can't defeat Japanese ergonomics; the PS3 dash hasn't needed an overhaul and yet still remains the preferred choice for gamers.
Besides, I've already seen X-Men 1st Class so this is useless to me.

Ok I hope your whole post is a joke and not just the last sentence... Just over 100 people on some random forum make for a legitimate measurement? You should really look up what a good sample size is.

I hardly think that 132 people voting on a small blog's forum is proof that people prefer the ps3. I've thought that the XMB could use an update for a long time now.

@warpedzappa said:Because Sony invented the horizontal list of items that opens a second level of vertical items?Just because Sony's marketing department gives something a fancy name doesn't mean they actually invented anything. So basically Microsoft ripped off Sony's Cross Media Bar, then put a pretty coat of paint on it.
Congratulations to the designers at Microsoft.
IMO the XMB is first to do it very well, its very easy to understand compared to the current Xbox Dash

I find they both rank a 0/10 in difficulty level.
Maybe I just overestimate peoples' ability to use simple navigation UIs.
Is there a way to signup a beta for this?
I got to try out the other versions earlier in the past, and I kinda like beta testing, even though it usually just causes problems. I just hate the wait when I've seen screenshots of the new UI.
Just give me back my blades interface with no ads. That was the best design they ever had and easily the most user friendly. Now its 7 different pages, 5 of which are nothing but ads
Are people really of the belief that the PS3 interface is good and easy to use? Not to be flametastic, but you are wrong. That interface is terrible. If ALL you want to do is play games and occasionally play a movie off disk, I could perhaps agree with that opinion. If you are doing anything else, forget it. And lets not forget, that the latter is what the VAST majority of people are doing. Hardly anyone uses these devices as single purpose gaming machines anymore. When I want to watch Netflix or rent a movie, trust me, the XBox is the first choice. Hands down.
In the XMB, nothing is in a place that makes sense, and many features launch you into "apps" that exit the primary UI. Look at how the store works, it launches into a new "app" with a totally different navigation method. Garbage. And then, don't even get me started on the "Settings" area. This was the design discussion: "Just pile all that shit in here in random order".
The 360 has its faults, to be sure. Its often slow and the organization of the content leaves a lot to be desired, but at least everything I touch acts the same and follows the same UI design. I see this iteration as them trying to solve the "organization" problem, which will be excellent.
@mostman: I'm not saying that PS3 is best, but I actually prefer to watch Netflix and stream content from my PC (music and videos) with the PS3. The interface is quicker for PC content streaming and I prefer Netflix on my PS3.
Once again, I'm not saying that PS3 is a perfect interface. But I prefer the lack of adds on the PS3 and I think the Netflix setup is better.
The 'Settings' tab on the PS3 does suck.

100% agree. It's one of the many reasons why I prefer PS3 now over the Xbox360. Although the above poster had it right about the PS3 settings tab sucking.
What are Sony playing at? I can't remember a single feature they've added to their console that I have used even once. Microsoft are starting over again for the second time and admitting their mistakes and making improvements. Sony don't even have cross game chat yet. It's lucky that there are companies making good games for the PS3 or I'd have sold mine years ago.

There are almost no good exclusive games on 360, and all the updates are just more improved ways to show advertisements to you. Yes the Xbox team are a great bunch of people that pioneer new features like beacons, but at the end of the day it's the games that matter. Also, the Xbox dashboard benefits from Microsoft's design teams and research departments. The interface is very close to that of Windows Phone and Windows 8, which is three products, two of them immensely popular. Sony only has one popular product to design interfaces for /excluding android tablets and cameras.
