My 360 RRoD again. Coincidence or conspiracy.

So today retailers close to me finally received their shipments of the new Xbox 360's. I finally made my decision that I wouldn't buy it because I only use Ethernet cables because of streaming and I haven't even filled up my 120 GB hard drive. Later I decided to get on, like I do every morning, and try to beat Assassin's Creed. Yeah I know, I just barely got the game. 30 minutes into the game my console freezes. I know what this means because it happened to me before. It's about to RRoD. So I turned it off and turned it back on only to be greeted with the 3 red lights. At this point there's nothing I can do. My console went through this process maybe 5 times now. Twice I sent it into Microsoft (I made sure it was the same console because I left a large scratch on the bottom middle of the console), sent it to a friend, tried fixing it myself, and sent it to some guy in Alabama. After I got it back from the dude in Alabama, it worked for awhile, even after it being on for a long time.

Now, you have to understand how angry, frustrated, pissed off I am. For someone to pay $500 when it first came out, $100 to have it repaired by Microsoft, $20 for my friend, $30 for the X-clamp fix, $50 to a dude in Alabama, and priceless to see the look on my face after it red rings again. You just have to wonder, is this a coincidence or a conspiracy? What do you want from me Microsoft? I'm a jobless man. I don't have money to keep shelling out to you. Do you want me to buy your $100 WiFi adapter? Do you want me to buy your $130 250 GB hard drive? Do you want me to be the $150 Kinect and $60 games? Or maybe you want me to buy the new console? I just don't know. I don't want to but if Microsoft keeps this up I just might have to change my standing on Giant Bomb from PC to PS3.

No one has any thoughts if this is Microsoft's doing just to get me to buy a new console?

A launch Xbox 360 is normally not one of the models you want, since it has the Xenon chip and they're the most defective of the bunch. At best, you want a 360 sporting with the Jasper motherboard. Apparently on Wiki, it says the new Xbox 360 has the "Valhalla" motherboard, so that's probably the best motherboard to date for the 360.

This is so depressing. I see a new RROD topic every other day.

I have the 360 Elite. I believe that has the Jasper board.

So I tried doing the towel trick. So far so good. But I'm not crossing my fingers because it only temporarily holds the soldering. Like everyone else says, it will crack again.

It has emerged that Microsoft has finally solved its long running RRoD problem in the new Xbox 360 Slim, in true Microsoft style – by removing the red light from the design completely.

In my limited research, the early Elite models are sporting the "Zephyr" motherboard. Later models used the "Falcon". By the end of 2008 all new 360s should be sporting the Jasper motherboard. Zephyr is identical to Xenon when it comes to reliability; since it was a revised version to bring the HDMI socket for the 360. Falcon is a little less defective than Xenon, but it didn't nearly do as much to stop the RROD as Jasper. It is possible that you don't have a Jasper and it wasn't replaced during its repairs.

What you might want to try and do open up your box again and re-tighten the screws you put in with your X-Clamp fix. Then overheat it again. Maybe the screws just became lose over time?

@Meteora: The date shows as October of 2007 so it would have to be a "Zephyr" model.

@Rhaknar: At the time it was the only guy I know that re-flows 360's. My friend just told me about a guy a few miles from me that does it for $20 and does it on the same day. So I'll probably send it to him now.

@RobotHamster: That's the very first current gen console I own. And it still works. Bought it at launch.

@JJWeatherman: Just to piss of Microsoft all together and switch to a rival console.

@ch13696: That "maybe" one of the reasons why we're seeing your console die out so frequently. Granted, there are other factors than just mere motherboards, such as the ventilation for your 360 and random ass bad luck. Not sure what to tell you. At this point you could either repair the console and keep it, or send it into to Gamestop for $100 if its working. You could use the money to buy a new 360 or just get a PS3. Or maybe even save up for a gaming PC.

@Meteora: It's in an open area. Plenty of ventilation. It's running right now, I'm sure it will go out again, but I don't want to sell it. Let's just say that I'll probably be on the ban list this coming September. And besides I already have a PS3, Wii, and a gaming PC.
