I struck me when I saw "XBLA", shouldn't it be just "XLA" to make it so that one world uses one letter... Then I was like...wait what does the "X" even stand for?
Xbox 360
Platform »
The Xbox 360 is the second game console produced by Microsoft Corporation and is the successor to the original Xbox.
What does the X stand for?
No it does not have anything to do with DirectX .
they used xbox as a prototype name when they were making it they thought they were going to name it the ____ box .
but while they were thinking of something to fill the blank they just put X as a place holder like how some people sign with an X.
After using the term xbox for when they previewed it to press, they just kept it xbox for it would be very confusing if they changed the name after showing it off.
its like the revolution to the wii but microsoft didn't change their name from the proto type stages.
a sad day when a sony fanboy like me knows the orgins of the xbox better than you people.

From Wikipedia:
The name for the Xbox was originally the Direct X-box as it came from a group of Microsoft Direct X developers, but later changed to Xbox after focus testing. The marketing team apparently "created this whole, long list of better names for the machine", former Microsoft VP of game publishing Ed Fries said in a interview with Gamasutra.
well I watched an interview where Seamus Blackley explained it just like the way I said." @trophyhunter said:
