Xbox 360

The Xbox 360 is the second game console produced by Microsoft Corporation and is the successor to the original Xbox.
What Incentives Will You Need To Buy A 360 Slim?
I'd want a better disc tray (in terms of noise, heat, and durability), and more durable hardware in general before I would consider it. Wi-Fi would be a good luxury for me but not necessary.
1. My current 360 dies
2. 100% backwards compatibility (I can dream, right?)
3. A list of multiple features (built-in wireless, blu-ray, etc.)
- Slot-loader or at least a disc drive that doesn't necessitate installs based on noise rather than loading times
- A fan that doesn't sound like a vacuum cleaner in its death throes, or an irate miniature doberman with a sore throat
Hit on those two things and I'm on board for a second 360. Helps that I'm in an area that gets U-Verse TV, and could use both 360's as DVRs at year end, should rumors come true.
For me to purchase one, provided it is a reasonable price, it must
A) Include Natal. This is a deal breaker.
B) HAVE A DISC DRIVE THAT BLOODY WORKS. Caps were necessary, (And preferably, if you want me to store my console upright, not burn my discs)
C) Run quieter and cooler than my Elite.
D) Not have a fucking X-Clamp. It's inside the machine, I won't see it. Build it to work, not to look good.
Less fan noise, hardware that won't break anywhere near as often as current 360s, and a low price point.
" @The_A_Drain: When Natal was revealed, Microsoft stated that when it is launched every single 360 sold since then would come with Natal. You're in luck! "Companies say a lot of things :D
Until I can see it, on the shelf, with Natal included, anything can still happen :(
I have 7 360's in my possession ATM, 1 is my friends he lent me, 4 are RROD, 2 are working. I have too many, and will never purchase another 360. I would if I only had a few 360's, but can't justify buying another with so many already. Have had 12 RROD consoles since November 06 when my launch console failed.
" If it ships without red lights built into the machine that tells me it's dead. Sold. So sad... "The red rings are simply there as a warning, similar to the Windows blue screen of death.
They don't necessarily mean the system is dead, it can just mean that your cables or HDD aren't in correctly.
Obviously they didn't intend them to be used as often as they are..
"I cannot play my 360 without having my sound system cranked up, or wearing headphones. I have my 360's fans at a constant 12V to prevent RROD.... It's LOUD

" Nothing really. The next generation of consoles is a little over 2 years away. I'm not going to drop down more money for a product that will be replaces in 1.5-2 years. "I seriously doubt that Microsoft and Sony will be looking to release NEW consoles in 2 years. They will release UPDATED consoles, but new? Nah. This is the first generation we've seen that can go past the typical five year span, and dare I say it, they could easily break ten years. Nintendo would need to release a serious update to their console, if not an all new one. However, there's no point in fueling massive amounts of R&D costs for motion controls and all the crazy multimedia shit on NEW consoles when they could use the current consoles for lower manufacturing costs and higher profitability.
In short, the 360 and PS3 ain't going anywhere for a while. Don't be surprised if you see Nintendo say something about a Wii HD within two years, but 360 and PS3 are set for a little while longer.
If they were the same price as the current 360's I would get one when my current dies (its inevitable). I need a new hard drive anyway...
I think a combo of wifi, free online, no red ring, and natal would get me to buy.... But i think microsoft will sell natal seperately for use on regular 360s.
This is wishful thinking, but since this whole failure rate debacle is microsofts fault to begin with, maybe if your xbox redrings instead of getting it replaced, you could pay a reduced cost and get just the slim xbox, with few to none of the above features, or at least not natal if its sold seperately.I really dont think that will happen, but it would be nice.
I don't have one at all now. Still would need wifi to be persuaded to get a 360 again. The prices for all the accessories (hd, wifi) are kinda ridiculous. That's a big part of what soured my perception of it to begin with.
- If it had a solid state harddrive so games would load faster when installed i'd consider it...but there's no way it's going to be priced high enough to include a SSHD.
- Built in WiFi would be good as microsoft has the only machine on market that doesn't have it...when nintendo's out teching you with a handheld, Microsoft, you should feel shamed.
- More reliable DVD drive, preferable one that doesn't get confused and think it's a vinyl record press, cutting grooves into DVDs, when you nudge it.
If it includes Natal and it's priced at $300 i may get it unless reviews come back as "Natal's a total joke!".
I have a fairly recent 360, my fourth since 2005, but I'll wait for it to die until I replace it. The fan noise isn't an issue for me, and especially now that I have both a PS3 and a gaming PC it's seeing less use than ever.
I'm hoping this box will last until the nextbox comes out.
If they come out with a $200 no hard-drive basic package, I'll get it. I'm honestly more excited about a possible influx of used 360s at local Gamestops to the point where they might lower the prices, allowing me to buy it and get a 1-year warranty even cheaper and chuck me E-74d system in the trash.
If neither of those events happen, then I guess I won't be playing any more 360 games (not counting the ones that are also on PC).
The console being free, or free online play. More realistically, I'd love to see built in WiFi support, a quieter fan, a bigger default hard drive and more reliable hardware. Still, even if it had all that, I wouldn't buy one, because I already have a working 360. However, if my current machine broke, I'd probably get the suspected slimmer version if it did have all that at a reasonable price.
It would need to have two of the following:
-It would need to cost the same as an arcade unit does now. So 199$ without a hard drive. If my hard drive isn't compatible, it would need to have an internal one.
-It would need to be about 10 times less noisy. I bought a PS3 for that very reason. Both my room at home and room in residence are small and the xbox makes it sound like there's a generator in here.
-Built in wi-fi. Kinda late to the party here Microsoft.
-More reliable hardware. I'm sick of sending these things back.
I don't have a current-gen console and ever since the 360 Slim was "announced" I've been holding my breath. I'll buy it 2 weeks after it comes out to see how many people's Xbax's die.
" If I could transfer my current harddrive info over. Other than that, I'd buy one straight up, no need for incentive. I have the original xbox 360, without HDMI, and I've come close to buying a new model just for that anyway. "This would help immensely.
@wh4tshisface said:" Free online. "
@Jikla said:" wifi is the only thing that would lead me to buy another 360. I refuse to buy their wireless adapter. "
@zombie2011 said:" less fan noise, wireless and a more reliable hardware. Been unlucky and had to deliver my 360 in for repairs 4 times in 2 years :/ "
all of the above and just as cheap" If it comes with Natal i might pick one up, if not i have no reason for a second 360. "
my current 360 stopped working....soo anything would make me get a slim :P as long as its cheap enough
I have two 360's now. My Elite is the main console and I have the other as a spare as I've had 2 failures in the past.
Because of this I'd love to buy a more reliable unit but I don't tink I'd rush and get one straight away. Maybe if one of my existing consoles broke.
Things that could persuade me to get one:
Quieter running (almost silent would be nice)
Lower power consumption
Power Supply in the case or at least half the size (we can only hope)
More solid build quality & these dumb GPU overheating problems gone
Built in Wi-Fi
Hmmm... it's sounding like a PS3 :D
