The only reason to buy a slim would be the death of my current 360. No way a slim with natal is less than $200, and even at that price it is not an impulse buy.
As you said @Linkyshinks, all I want is a more reliable bit of hardware. My current 360 has trouble reading discs and trouble outputting to 1080i. Since I'm in the target audience for a new slim (as I expect my console to give out in a few months), I hope Microsoft has really considered whether the slim is an improvement and not just a size change; hopefully it's not only some vainglory attempt at widening their marketshare, but a real evolution for the brand.
