If you're waiting for Fallout 3 GOTY you could go ahead and get Oblivion GOTY if it doesn't have to be a shooter RPG. Oblivion is really fun with ample side quests to keep your interest for many hours.
@Ninjakid7396: well tales of vesperia, lost odyssey, fallout 3 star ocean, infinite undiscovery and oblivion. which i think these games are very good rpg's.
Oblivion is my second most favorite game of all time and receives my strongest recommendation.
As for other RPGs... I'm not really sure. I still don't consider Fable II an RPG, it's a fantasy themed action adventure game, with sim elements. I still had fun playing it though, and would recommend it.
I enjoyed Eternal Sonata the most, but I like JRPG much more than WRPG.
So on that basis, apart from Eternal Sonata, I also loved Infinite Undiscovery. Also good is Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey. I really need to get Star Ocean and Tales of Vesperia.
Blue Dragon is really not very good. Generic story and characters, horrid frame-rate, and boring dungeons all contribute to this. It does have fantastic graphics, a very cool battle system, and the fact that it doesn't have random battles is great, but those things don't make the game worth buying if you play RPGs for the reason I do: story and character development.
@Ninjakid7396: kameo is consider a fantasy action adventure game, so no its not really a rpg. but if you like the game then go get, you dont have to stick with just getting a rpg game.
I liked Star Ocean. I know a lot of people did not but I think it has a rather fun fight system and the story is not half bad. They do look like Team America puppets when they talk since they just dubbed over the japanese, and then never Synced there mouths to English.
Funny thing is, Tales of Vesperia was my first Tales game in the series, and seems to be my only RPG on my 360 (and im an RPG nut). So i have to recommend that.
Once you weed out the JRPGs and the pseudo-RPGs (Dead Rising and Fable II for example) there isn't much available for it. Hell, they classify everything as an RPG these days and the only ones that aren't labeled such entirely superfluously are the JRPGs. If that's what you're into, there's a good handful. Not much variety otherwise, though.
If you like JRPG's, definitely check out Lost Odyssey. Some people are put off by the pace, but it's very original and has a great story to tell. Fable 2 lacks depth in a lot of places, but as long as you aren't looking for a serious hardcore RPG and just want to have fun, it's got a lot to entertain you with. I could critisize Oblivion for being such a step back from Morrowind.. but if you enjoy things like Fallout, there is a lot to like and it will last you a long time.
Kameo definitely isn't an RPG and it's very short, but in my opinion it was very under appreciated. It's a really enjoyable platform/adventure game that I wish we could see more of on the 360. The Maw is the ONLY other game like it.
Knights of the Old Republic 1 & 2 and Jade Empire for the original Xbox are worth getting a hold of too, if you haven't played them already. They have some bugs running on the 360, but they're great games that shouldn't be missed.
Losty Odyssey and that's it, Tales of Vesperia and Star Ocean are being ported enhanced to the PS3. ToV PS3 will have full voice acting so wait for it to be localized
