Instead of renaming their proprietary music service that no one uses to "Xbox Music", why couldn't they just give us access to services like Spotify and Rdio? I just don't get it.

The Xbox 360 is the second game console produced by Microsoft Corporation and is the successor to the original Xbox.
Why couldn't have Microsoft just given us Spotify?
Why do the majority of companies release closed software instead of releasing it under an open source license?

Spotify pretty much sucks anyway.
Use your own cloud streaming libraries, people.
Well, what I've found is nice about Spotfiy is that it does let you use your own cloud streaming libraries. You can just supplement it with yours. It's not my favorite service, but it's pretty cool.
I hope you all understand that MS doesn't write 3rd party apps. It's up to services such as Spotify to write an app for Xbox One. Take these discussions to the Spotify forums, and we'll eventually see a Spotify App on Xbox One (if they aren't already working on one now).
I will NOT be bamboozled with reason!
they don't get money then
You're saying Microsoft is trying to profit off its users? I WON'T HEAR IT! NOT MY PRECIOUS MICROSOFTY! NOT MY LOVELY BALMER!

Saying Spotify sucks is kind of off, you can say you don't agree with the service in that for your money you get an awful lot of content to the point where it could be considered unethical... however as a service and platform it's fucking amazing value to the consumer.
This thread has potential.
one year later it still has legs
I really really wish the xbone had Spotify. as long as they're shilling Xbox Music, though, it'll never happen. They've made it a pain in the ass to even play the music you already own this time out.

Anyone who has actually used the platform would agree it's awful. The interface, app, website, everything are truly awful. Yeah it's a great deal and a great value, but my point from years ago still stands, which is perhaps a more painful indictment than I even initially intended. Here we are almost two years later and their interface still sucks.

I've used it. I pay 15 buckeroos a month for it. The last thing I would say about any of it is that it's awful. Hell I can find music I want to listen to faster on spotify than I can on my phone's default mp3 player.
The worst thing I'd say about spotify is that it's frustrating to see albums you like disappear and reappear every so often.

I've been paying for it for about 18 months now. I've never heard anyone who thinks the interface is even adequate. It's truly awful. The service is fine.
