Do you believe the stereotype of XBL being overrun by screaming 12 year olds who crave blood to wash down their cookies and milk? Or do you think it's overexagerated?

I think it's over exagerated. I only see one or two per game of Halo, none on UT3, only a few on CoD4 each time I play, and rarely any on Gears of War.

I think its totally blown out of proportion. Though there are a lot of prepubescent kids out there. I think they are just way more memorable then the cool ones...so when people come to post on the forums they tend to only remember the BAD times, and not the Good times. If that makes sense?

That makes perfect sense and I agree. They don't take into prespective how many cool people they met before the twelvy arrived and ruined the game, they just remember how annoying twelvy was.

It's sort of like Murphy's Law. The reason people say "Oh yeah, Murphy's Law is so true it always happens to me" is because when something bad happens at a not so inconvenient time, you don't notice it. But when something bad DOES happen at an inconvenient time, it's so devastating that you say "Murphy's Law" and that is what you remember.

You don't notice the good people because they're not screaming. You DO notice the annoying kids because they ARE screaming

Yeah it's over exaggerated but it is still very annoying nonetheless, especially when you have grown men acting the same.

Well, I play quite a bit of multiplayer games.  I'm in quite a few lobbies every night and I can honestly say there is always someone acting like a complete idiot.  It's not always a child screaming into the mic, but there is always at least  one person,  attempting to ruin your experience and hinder any enjoyment to be gained from gaming with friends.  God bless the folks at Microsoft and implementing eight way private chat with our next update....

    For the most part, yes.
    Really, it's all people though.
I think that 80% of players on XBL believe they can be complete annoying assholes just because they're not speaking face to face with someone, and have the security of distance and relative anonymity.

I met one really cool kid, he's like 13, while playing a game of GoW the first month it came out. They aren't bad when they are good at playing and know when to talk. Still on my friend's list to this day.

I find the people who feel the need to insult me at every turn more annoying and plentiful than the little kids. I used to have the perception that people playing online games on the PC were just a bunch of pretty cool all be it "nerdy" 20-something year old gentlemen usually getting along. But on console games everyone sounds like they think they are a "gangsta" regardless of race or where they live and just feel the need to treat each other like shit over nothing. Can't wait for 8 person chat this fall so I never hear it again.

I haven't ran into alot of '12 year olds' since the days of rtcw and halo2.. but I do get to hear a lot of crap now and then, mainly because I'm female and guys to tend to get carried away when there is a girl in the room.. so I guess my answer is : I haven't seen alot of 12 yr olds but alot of immature guys.. lol

The stereotypical litlle annoying kid is over exagerated, I rarely get them, and even if they are little kids they usually don't talk very much or forget to turn of they're mic while talking to mommy. Not that there isn't any, I recently played a COD4 match where a little kid was repeating the word "ROFL" into the mic every second.

My only problem with this stereotype being overexagerated is that now I'm hearing alot of adult gamers assume that anyone under 18 is one of these children, which is far from true.

My advice to you is, if you ever start a multiplayer match and hear that give away squeeky chip-munk voice, instead of egging them on and having them erupt in a fit of cussing, simply mute them and enjoy your match.

LOL i've never met any of these 12 year olds people talk about, I more often meet all age ranges of people with that attitude, Its funny how its 12 year olds but not 13 year olds or even 21 year olds...ect And it doesn't matter the service or game your on they are gonna be there.

I would love to be you then(OP) in seeing a very small amount of whiny children on live, but its unfortunately more so the masses for me,I see to get alot on Rainbow Six Vegas 2,but when I played Halo more,of course it was the highest mark of adolescent 6-12 year old sounding, bitching and moaning children. Then when I would get into a game with older players, they just want to be racist and talk shit,(mostly including "your mom <insert more here>" types of things.  Its pretty sad.

The thing is, in GTA IV I find it to be young adults who are like 18 to 20ish who have really fake gangsta accents and cuss up a storm and scream "NIGGA I DIE". Not many kids, the few times I've had trouble with kids is when they don't turn off their mics when whining because mom is talking to them when they are playing GTA IV.

GTAIV has gone to hell on both systems though online wise. As for the whole 'NIGGA' shotuing thing, I can't stand that on any game. It's less rare than the twevle year olds too sadly. It's racist, and it's idiotic. Now, I don't mind when people talk trash after a win or after a kill, that's cool, it's a competition it's going to happen, but I do mind the random shouting of racial slurs and people laughing like it's real humor or even just trying to be casual talking with slurs and disregarding how it's idiotic and just setting society back. I mute anyone who does that and put them on avoid, I do not wish to be apart of that stereotype, I would much rather XBL have the stereotype of attracting little kids.

I rarely have a good experience when I'm not in a private chat while playing games on XBL.

It's not the 12 year olds screaming (those are rare for me)

It's the 12 year olds that think they're gangster thugs and fling out the n-word (not that I find it offensive, it's just annoying hearing a little kid use words they shouldn't even hear until they're in high school if they're lucky) every five seconds.

And when you actually stoop to their level and insult them back and make them shut the ef up; they just begin repeating all of your insults back to you because they don't have anything to say.

Has anyone noticed that usually they'll shut the ef up when it's just them alone, like if they die and you die on COD4 it's just you and them alone in the spectator chat, but once their friends die it's like a freaking zoo. Since the other animals are around to holler too the main one has to act like he's an alpha male.

Sometimes I'm just eternally disapointed in KIDS on the game; IF I ever have a kid and I hear him acting like a stupid idiot on the mic, I prob wont let him play games anymore period.

Almost reminds me of when south park came out and I was in 3rd grade and all the kids started talking like them. Now it's the same thing only thugish.

Yea this subject really bugs me. =_=
