I liked Fable II out of all those but it's not heavy as an RPG, which is probably why I liked it.

No JRPGs on the list?  Fail.  :(              Out of those I guess I'll pick Fable 2.

None of those. No JRPGs is a stupid and arbitrary restriction. The title says RPGs, and I expected RPGs, not inter-genre racism.

Its a tie between mass effect and fallout 3 but I agree no Jrpg is kinda messed up cause theres a few Jrpgs on the 360 that are much better RPGS then most on this list cause they are Pure Rpgs.

You got a good point cause there isn't much RPG about Fable 2 really, I mean sure you level up but you don't have huge amounts of stats you can monitor tho a Fable game that is more like an RPG while still being Fable would be awesome!

As an RPG, Oblivion is the best. It taps the core of the genre better than the other four games, and at the same time is accessible to players of all skill levels. The only thing holding Mass Effect back from being my first choice is its somewhat shallow gameplay. It's fun, but nowhere near the variability and multi-faceted gameplay of Oblivion.

Lets see how fable 3 turns out. But I wish they would remove the comedy aspects of it, farting and burping is insulting to the intellect of any serious RPG gamer imho.

Wow, oblivion has the worst rules and leveling system I have ever encountered. The whole fact that your primary skills should be skills you never use (cuz it makes you level if you do, thus increasing the level of all monsters) is totally absurd.
Oblivions rules and system in my book is an epic fail, rest of the game rocks though :)

If you're going to implement arbitrary restrictions, at least say so in the topic title. It's really easy to specify in the title that you only want discussion of western-style RPGs.

I honestly don't understand how anyone can like the shallow turd that is Fable and Fable 2, they do nothing new or interesting and the story is amazingly generic for a fantasy setting. My pick is Mass Effect, the story really got me hooked and even though technically the game is kinda flawed I still love it to death. Fallout 3 a close second.

I think you misunderstand what the leveling system does. Each time you gain a level, you become a better character. So to balance that, monsters increase in level as well, thus keeping the combat fair and not succumbing to you being over/underpowered. It's not absurd at all -- in fact, it's a great system, because you can explore any part of the map regardless of your level.

Oblivion's leveling system is one of the best out there. If you want to be a mage, the only way you're becoming a better mage is by doing magic. You don't say, "I'm gonna be a thief!" and then level up your thief by running in swords-a-swingin'.

Oblivion is really great fun, but you need to be prepared to give it a lot of your time. It's not something you can dip into every now and then.

Two solid, dedicated weeks of play should have you through the main quest and achievements for the guilds. After that, you can pretty much move freely around the map and explore ruins/shrines/caves until your heart's content.

I think it depends on how you interpret the term "Role Playing Games".  Some people still say Zelda is one, which I can't understand.  I view RPGs as games inwhich you have strong control over your character in terms of both how they interact in the world and how they develop at whatever they do, which is usually fighting.  I'm guessing you don't consider Fable and RPG because it doesn't have turn based combat, but it does a good job of letting you "play the role" of a hero and do whatever you want.

Also, Mass Effect is the best RPG, J or otherwise.

Actually that is false. You become a better mage by putting mage skills as secondary, so you can max them out at level 1, and then you put some primary skills that are easy to use but arent magic, so you can start leveling after you maxed out your secondary ones. That is a far more optimized build in every aspect... and it shouldn't be in a RPG imho.

Mass Effect and Fallout 3 are the obvious 360 choices for me. I haven't played Oblivion on 360 but I can imagine its broadly identical so thats also a decent game.
If and only if you can find it cheap Two Worlds has something to offer, its hilariously broken in almost every way but some of the wacky play mechanics are extremely fun, the voice act is also hilarious as is the fact that people are constantly saying things like "forsooth, the taint". I would post a screen of the weird looking bears from the game but I can't find any online. If you see it sub €25 (not sure what that is in Dollars) then Two Worlds is worth a whirl.
