I have gold (3 month trial that came with my harddrive). I only use it to play Rock Band 2 with my friend. Silver would suit my needs just fine. I'm not a FPS person and if I want online multiplayer I prefer to use my PC.

I'm considering the possibility of downgrading to Silver, but my Gold doesn't expire until November and many things could change by then...Gold could regularly cost $30. I may start playing MP at a more frequent rate again...I don't know, but I personally don't find Gold too much of an expense for a year of service anyways, even if I don't use it like a madman.

it's good to just keep buying gold at a constant 12 month rate. i just got 13 months for $30 dollars so I am set for a while.
Gold for sure. I play mutliplayer COD and some other games with friends so it makes sense.
But even if I didn't do that often, i'd keep gold active. Access to demos or other content before others is worth it to me. Especially when you can get it for 30 bucks for 13 months. That's pretty good.

Oh and at the guy with month to month subscrption buying 3 month or 12 month cards from the store are waaay more convenient than credit card. Redeem code whenever you want, and buy it whenever you want.
Gold. No reason to not go to Gold. Even though Silver has a majority of the XBL functions, if it can't play games online like what a console should do then fuck it.
I actually never knew how to activate my free 3 month Gold trial until I finally got an actual 1 year membership and I got a message saying something to the effect of 'your free trial is no longer active' or 'has expired'.
I dont play online too much, but its nice having Gold to play Street Fighter IV these days ;)
I had a years gold on xbox and another years gold on 360 but im down on silver just now (not enough cash to spare) and im honestly thinking that I might not upgrade again. I dont get a lot more tbh I get voice chat (id rather type), I get multiplayer in games (which I dont use a lot and if I was in an MP mood I have my PC) and I get some DLC Deals (which I dont use, if I want DLC I get it and if not I dont) and I get some demos early (which is good but not worth £40 a year). Maybe ill get it, for past 3 months ive just signed up with my many many hotmail accounts (had to make many over the years for diffrent things) and getting 1 month free off them just so I can play for 5 minutes with someone then ignore it for a month.

That would sound appealing but that sounds unlikely to happen. We're talking about Microsoft here. They rack up money for providing you service. That money might be of revenue value to them or to pay for the servers on XBL. And $60 isn't a whole lot for a year. I think Sony made PSN free because they had no choice since their quality of service isn't as good as XBL.
I have Silver because I fail, but I've got a 3 month Gold card in my wallet that I'll use once I get around to getting more games with online multiplayer.
Silver for me, because sadly all my friends with 360s that convinced me to get the 360 and then get live would rather play Fallout 3 or Fable 2 than some BF: Bad Company with me....So i stick with my pc gaming friends and play 360 with my girlfriend when she comes over.
Gold for me, I would just have silver but my brother in California likes to play with me from time to time so I keep it on gold. I also like to be able to download demos and stuff as soon as they come out.
I have silver. Since I don't have a permanent connection for my 360 I pretty much have no use for it. Though the better one of the two is naturally gold.
I was actually really close to letting my gold account lapse into a silver account. Hardly ever played online, and those times I did was hardly ever a great experience.
Then Netflix came out with their goddamn app. That thing has me hooked.
I currently have silver, and have never payed for gold, I've just used gold when my Xbox came back from repair (yes my 360 has had to be repaired tha many times lol) the one free month card lol... I'd like to though, I might this summer after my exams.
Since Call of Duty 4 came out.. Not to mention COD5 (which I admit it hard to get into after playing COD4 for a while, at the start it feels like a cheap mod) - Anyway since then Gold became the only option.
