Apologies if I've missed a similar topic in my search.

Since the Xbox.com renovations, I've noticed a new bullet point on the Redeem code page.
https://live.xbox.com/en-US/RedeemToken

Prepaid codes cannot be consumed or activated if the user has billing violations or their payment instrument is in decline. The user must first remove any violations before utilizing a prepaid code.

I can appreciate that Xbox gets a huge amount of fraud, and pre-paid credit cards are the devil's fingernails for consumers and merchants alike.  So I see the value in not letting people with violations continue to abuse the service.
Still, I am forced to wonder if when my credit card naturally expires soon next year, will Xbox stop allowing me to use pre-paid cards, and wouldn't that defeat the main consumer desire to have pre-paid cards?  "In decline" describes that situation properly.  Personally it's not what I consider an inconvenience, since the 1 thing I need to do is remember to buy a Gold card when I see them on sale, then there's no issue. But are they establishing a bigger issue, now the service is reaching critical mass?

Curious if others have encountered this already. I think we all despise the thought of calling 1-800-4MY-XBOX, and most people have noticed that they removed the ability to disable auto-renewal via the website.  Basically billing issue = phone call.  That's how they get you and how they keep you.  They teach this stuff in business school, MS ain't dumb or unique.

I'm sure if you remove that credit card as a payment option before it expires you should be fine. I think "in decline" here means that your card has been declined elsewhere for whatever reason so it must be some kind of fraud protection mechanism for MS.
