Well some further commentary on what you're saying or some source for this claim might be nice but no, Xbox LIVE makes way too much money for Microsoft for them to just start giving free access to it.
@mugugipan: How are they going to continue paying for all the Xbox 360 hardware failures? They need the xbox live revenue to keep their racket profitable. ;)
With Sony considering bringing in their own fee's.. I'd say no, it's unlikely to happen. Hosting the amount of stuff they do just isn't feasible.
If anything, I'd like to see them make online play free to silver members, and just include benefits and extra options, etc for Gold members. Which is likely what Sony are planning.
Considering that Michael Pachter predicted XBL to double in price and he is always dead wrong with his "analysis" I would guess that XBL is going to free on the next Xbox. I don't think they are going to change the pricing structure this gen though.

Yeah paying $50 to pay for the servers hosting the annoying ass ads while using our own bandwidth to actually host games is a real bargain...
@WinterSnowblind: Exactly. I just want to play online and the people who want nonsense like Twitter and Facebook and early access to demo's can pay for that.
Problem is - and Microsoft knows this - the number of Gold members would plummet like a brick if they did that.
@septim: Ads Are you serious the ridiculous amount of content on XBL and the servers stability and your worried about one line on the Marketplace with ads on it? I own both systems and as much as I love Uncharted 2 and the other great games the PSN doesn't hold a candle to XBL so yes I am willing to drop 4 dollars a month for a superior online service.
