    • You can share your games with up to ten people? Right?
    • Xbox Live is now on a console basis not your account, right?
    • The game line up looks pretty slick with bunch of new IP:s, right?
    • You can, as with Steam, connect your box to the internet through your mobile for 10 seconds and you're fine? Right?
    • Project Spark

I kind of feel like I've missed something with this console that makes everybody shit their pants to dust. I think both Sony and Microsoft are heading for a pretty bright looking future with enough different futures that now is the time to buy two consoles for more reasons then Video Games. We should embrace that, not hate it.

Most of these things wouldn't negatively effect me either, but I think there's a degree of willful ignorance when it comes to not seeing how their policies would negatively effect a large number of people.

@fruitcocoa: 'The lending a game to a friend.'-thing. You can only share with the people in your household on the same xbox (actually I do not know how it handles multiple xboxes.). Gold is a console based thing now. So you can have a gold account, and on the same xbox their can be free accounts of your wife and kids etc. which also have access to the gold benefits.

Personally I really don't care for project spark at all, though that's personal and if that's your thing then you're all the better for it.

The issue with how Microsoft deals with sharing its games is that it's tied to an account and can only be shared with one of up to 10 sub accounts and not with anyone who has the disc which to me seems very convoluted and takes away some of the freedom you have as a consumer to lend your game to anyone you like. Also the fact that they're restricting it to you and one other person seems dumb.

Can't fault Microsoft with their game line up, there are some really interesting titles there and they cater to a pretty wide audience. Real standout game for me is quantum break, I'm really looking forward to learning more about that game.

I don't think there are any specific details about how the online verification works but the fact that it's there is already needlessly complicated in my book. Believe it or not but there are some people that only rarely hook their PS3 or xbox 360 up to the internet and are primarily interested in single player experiences, to me it doesn't make a whole lot of sense to force those people to connect online before they're able to play their games.

As for xbox live I assume it's not on a console basis because it carries over from your 360 to your xbox one.

But, you know, other than that.

@fruitcocoa: I agree with you. Don't have an issue with their current policies. Wanna go digital anyways. Preordered both, but there's more stuff on the One exclusive wise I'm excited about. (I'm assuming here that KH 3 and FF XV are also One games. They only ever said exclusive when talking about XIV Reborn)

I also kinda think publishers are just going to double down even more on Online Pass with the PS4 now.

    Here are some things you missed that converted me from an X1 cheerleader to a day one PS4 purchaser;

    PS4 is considerably more powerful.

PS4 is ONE HUNDRED dollars cheaper. That's kind of a huge deal.

    PS4 allows used games. Period.

PS4 supports self publishers, which makes it the perfect console for independent game developers.

Clarity is the keyword here. Microsoft has been exceptionally vague about their policies regarding the Xbox One which has led to a lot of unnecessary confusion for the past few weeks. Sony, on the other hand, has answered just about every question I could potentially have about their new system while teasing exciting software that showcases the capabilities of their machine. Clarity of vision goes a long way towards easing the process of transitioning to a new generation of consoles and Sony is eclipsing Microsoft in that regard.

@blatantninja23: Even so that still leaves a huge market for singleplayer only games of which there are still plenty. And lets be honest if your friend has the new COD you don't want to borrow it from him but play it with or against him.

I don't get why this isn't a bigger talking point, even if Sony had exactly the same used/online policy as the XB1 this is awesome since it means the PS4 the potential for a bunch of weird, interesting stuff to play.

I wil not support a company like Microsoft that is so staunchly anti-consumer. It's that simple. If someone else wants to support it though, more power to them.

I don't see how anyone would want a Xbone now, not after what Sony revealed.

Some of the games seemed interesting, but a game that interested me(Dead Rising 3) seemed too serious and too casualized for my tastes.

You make an excellent point. I'd never thought about that (though I've never thought about owning a microsoft console). They only said it needs to be plugged in for the system to work didn't they? Maybe it'll work with a broken kinect. Doubtful, but they haven't really been clear. I guess we'll find out soon enough.

My biggest beef is backwards compatibility. I own 72 Xbox 360 games. If they had announced that I could run them on the Xbone then I wouldn't make much of a fuss about the other features. You would think that the investment customers gave to the 360 would be a no-brainer to move them to the Xbone as they have already invested in the franchise a significant amount. But no. And now we see why: new 360 for sale, new 360 games on the way. Now there's a chance that Microsoft will change its mind in a couple of years when they EOL the 360, but until then I don't really trust them until I hear an announcement.

I'm starting to think the Xbone was cobbled together at the last minute. They heard Sony was coming out with the PS4, so they just hashed something together without thinking about any customer reality. Like they did with Windows Vista and Windows 8.

A lot of people dismiss used games, but miss the fact that you can go out right now and pick up a ton of older 360 games for $2-5 used. I sometimes browse the net for games that I missed over the years and easily pick them up for practically nothing. Pop them in and I get to go through stuff that I missed out on. You can guarantee that those games hover around the $20-30 mark if they were digital only from MS.

The PS4 is also $100 cheaper, doesn't require check-ins (read completely future proof, I can fire up my games 20 years from now to enjoy with my children), doesn't support DRM at the system level, lets you swap games privately, doesn't force a kinetic on devs or gamers, has 50% more GPU power, uses better RAM, provides publisher-free indie support and, most importantly, is backed by people that care about the consumer's experience. Plus is also a much better deal than Live.

It kinda seems like this is pretty major detail a lot of people are just brushing over. More powerful hardware for a hundred dollars less. And this isn't some whacky cell processor version of 'more powerful,' either. This is just x86 too, so there's good reason to believe all cross-platform games will look and run considerably better on PS4, a cheaper console. Big deal if you ask me.

This is a huge point for me as well. Collecting consoles and games for many console generations now (oldest being the Atari and Vectrex with me) I don't want to collect glorified paperweights when Microsoft finally shuts of the servers (and remember they did this once before for their music service once it wasn't succesful. Telling people to burn their music to a CD before the servers fully shut down as they had no plan in place to make it DRM free if the servers ever went out forever).

Alot of the Xbox1 DRM probably wouldn't effect me (theoretical) but am I gonna support someone that takes away some of my consumer rights even though I might not always take advantage of them? No! Especially when there is a cheaper and more powerful alternativ.

You guys missed that Microsoft insulted everyone in saying they were listening when in reality they were not. Then Microsoft was hinting that this is what the Publishers want, when in reality it's Microsoft's ideas. Then Microsoft comes out two weeks after backpedaling, and changes nothing, and then they say it's up to the publishers? = What a load of crock! IT'S YOUR CONSOLE MICROSOFT (Needs 24 hour Online DRM checks to play games, remember?) IT'S YOUR SOFTWARE MICROSOFT, & YOR SERVERS (AZURE servers everything is tied to, remember?) IT'S YOUR PLAN FOR TOTAL CONTROL MICROSOFT (Certain Retail Partners who agree to Microsoft's terms for used games, remember?) You basically said this is what you guys decided on because having every Xbone console needing online is forward thinking, and that makes it somehow future proof. = Microsoft, you do realize that every PS3/360/PS4 can go online if people wanted them to, right?

I don't know why anyone in their right mind would support the crap Microsoft is spewing

There's a big factor here, if you can do that with digital purchases, such as the Live Arcade stuff we have now, then this could be really important. If we assume game discs are going to be a minority in ~5 years time then Sony's 'give disc' approach is pretty much mute. If you can give the disc but not the ton of DLC or online multiplayer stuff, then again, this could be a big issue.

Of course there's a lot still up in the air but I think there's more to this long term than we're seeing now.

Digital games become worthless to the owner if they don't want it any longer. Physical discs that don't need online DRM can become rare and worth quite a bit. = What Sony is offering is FAR superior to the worth of my SP games.

I think @subyman pretty much nailed all the most important reasons.

I was a 360 owner last gen because the developers I liked and wanted to support developed for that console. Now, most (if not all) are developing for the PS4 and PC. Bungie is a great example. I've played pretty much all of Bungies games. This might sound a bit crazy, but I have a personal connection to the style of game that they make. Their passion shines through their work. The same goes for other developers like CD Projekt RED. I'll follow them anywhere.

For me it comes down to the IPs and none of MS do anything for me. They have a spotty track record in terms of IPs, where as Sony has kept creating new IPs that I've enjoyed.

Actually according to the dumptruck, online pass is not an option on PS4 bc online is already behind a paywall. Seems like publishers are going to have to come up with another way. As they said on the bombcast, it could lead to PS4 games costing $10 more. Sure hope not, though.

Yes. A lot of people are very angry about something they don't have to buy.

You think that's what many Xbox fans wanted? No, they didn't and being upset is how they are dealing with the frustration. Hopefully, they will not buy into a product that can hurt many other gamers than just themselves. Crazy that many can think of others at a time like this, than being selfish in thinking everything is cool with them (Like certain Xbone fans) The main point is it's not the right way to go about it, and it will only harm the options for everyone if the Xbone sets the standard. Do you think most gamers like the thought of their whole Xbone game library becoming unplayable one day if Microsoft shuts the servers down for their next Xbox console? I don't believe anyone can trust in Microsoft in keeping up the servers for more than 10 years for every game.

With a system/games being reliant on servers to play, their value drops by a lot. Most gamers I know like to keep, sell, trade, and be able to play their games anytime they want (Even 20 years from now) = The Xbone's restrictions realistically sets a very bad example for the future of gaming.

Who really trusts Microsoft's intensions that much?

Im pretty sure he already answered this: if you don't like it don't buy it, and if people don't mind let them buy it

I wonder if microsoft foresaw people calling it the Xbone? They were probably like "well people might combine the two words and shorten xbox to just x and call it the Xbone." "Nah, people are not THAT childish."

ha ha, oh microsoft, they really have no grasp on the core market.

The problem for me lies with the games I would have that somewhere down the line become completely useless, which should not be the case for physical console games.

I play more weird, little games than AAA blockbusters. Sony getting up on stage with a load of small devs saying "We support this lot" gets them a lot of good will.

Microsoft had Minecraft (which is no longer that indie) and a rougelike they showed 20 seconds of.

A game called Octodad was shown onstage at E3. Mental.

Well then maybe he shouldn't be surprised when there are people angry due to their frustrations with Microsoft, and are using forums by showing how they feel on a subject... You think?

Btw, Xbox is two syllables XB and then you add the one = Xbone. Shouldn't be that had to understand for you intellectuals

Making the kinect mandatory and all the cable tv stuff that I will never use are the things that are making me (a huge fan of the xbox 360) buy a playstation this gen.

I really don't see how you think he was surprised, mostly all your doing is proving his point, and I don't really know of anyone here you have to point out how you get the name of Xbone.
