So some other sites have info on their time with the XBONE kinect going up right now (specifically Sessler at Rev3) and it seems like the new kinect is significantly better at Depth of Field and detecting slight motions. If it comes out and is significantly better than the original, would you be willing to give it a chance with, say, another steel battalion? or is it still just a dumb piece of tech for dancing games?

Yes, I'm actually quite impressed from all the videos I watched. That said, no way am I going to put that ugly Kinect sensor near my television.

Being better than the first one isn't that big of an achievement. Maybe this one will do what the advertised for the first one..

I still wouldn't have room to use it in my condo. Not everyone lives in a Kinect-ready home.

The problem still is that most living rooms can't handle. Asking people to rearrange their living room so you can jump around is crazy.

Despite my negative attitude towards MS and how they have handled the Xbox platform, I actually like what they are trying to do with Kinect. The voice commands is awesome, and your occasional Dance Central game is fun to pull out during home gatherings.

Still think a split controller would make more sense with the kinect.

If you live in city in the UK your front room is the size of a fucking hamster cage. But then even if it did work, all we had to look forward to was "I'M HAN SOLO! HAN SOLO", so no great loss I guess.

If it works better for games great, but all I really care about is how it interacts with the system/dashboard. As long as I can do what he did on stage from my couch...fuckin a, im in with kinect.

I can't remember where I heard it earlier, maybe it was during the hardware talk, but I heard it said that this newer Kinect unit doesn't require as large a space to be used properly.

I'm sure it won't be perfect, but what fancy tech from any company is? We'll have to wait and see, and a lot of us will considering the thing is bundled by default with the Xbox.

@rvone: Part of me thinks it's kind of creepy. Part of me thinks its Gene Rodenberry's Star Trek dream come to life. Only time will tell if it's the dystopian science fiction of 1984 or not.

I agree. The range of possible applications for this technology from a user perspective is, of course, something to be quite enthusiastic about--if not with this generation of Kinect, then with the next. The flip side is, basically, the equally impressive range of surveillance possibilities that are created through having consumers bring this technology into their homes.

I was hoping they would focus in on facial recognition and hands/fingers recognition, opposed to full body. But yeah, that thing is massive and ugly.
