Don't Starve Together, Burnout Paradise, Borderlands 2 and Nidhogg are my go-to games to play with someone. If we prefer something slow, I go Portal 2 or Antichamber. The Witness is fun with dates, but could be fun with a friend I think. Much less of a slog than when playing alone because you can talk and have a conversation about random stuff.

All good suggestions, but yeah, the Borderlands Handsome Jack Collection could easily last you all summer, depending on how often you play. It's some of the best value in gaming today.
Try Rayman Legends and Guacamelee for Platforming. Peggle 2 for a fun quick casual game, Gears of War Ultimate or the BC Gears of War Games and Halo 4 From the Master Chief Collection for shooters. Also Diablo 3 Reaper of Souls for a hack and slash experience.
@spaceinsomniac: Eh... just stick to Borderlands 2. It is the best game in the series and although there aren't that many out there: it's easily the best loot-shooter-RPG there is. Especially with a friend. Pre-Sequel is kinda meh.
