I mean, there's no "XBOX ONE" on the console itself, unlike the 360. And the name itself isn't that...great or inspiring, I think we can all agree on that. Nor did the logo change at all. People were speculating the name "Infinity" and that it would have the infinity symbol next to it. Kinda weird.

Why would the logo change? Xbox is a brand, brands don't change there logo very often.

Hasn't every new console been through a logo change...? All they did was make the color of the green font darker...like, cool? The entire name and design seemed rushed to me.

As someone who has worked in marketing I can guarantee you that they have known for a long time what it will be called and that they put a ton of thought into that name. You might not like the name, that's fine, but there is no way their marketing department did not put effort and thought into it.

If I had to guess, they have a list of names and logo builds planned in case of a leak or lucky guess gaining traction. Nothing kills buzz like people already knowing what your console is going to be named before you announce it (assuming you don't follow a numeric system like Sony). Or I could be wrong and they simply feel that "Xbox" is more than enough to print on the console.

The unchanged logo keeps making me think Xbox 360.5, which is an odd number, but you get the point.

Again Xbox isn't just a console it's a brand, it's their music service, SmartGlass, Kinect etc. If they change the logo on the console they have to change the logo on everything, and why do that when it all just got put under the name and logo a couple years ago.

It's going to be really awkward when the 9th gen Xbox is named "Original Xbox."

I think the first meaning is the "All-in-One" but there are two more much more possible arrogant meanings as well:

Xbox is #1

Xbox Won!

And then there's also meaning of Xbox Fuck-You-and-Your-Sequential-Numbering-We-Are-Microsoft-and-Want-To-Call-It One

Maybe they just got tired with people calling it this gen's console the 360, so they went with a name that would make people just say Xbox instead of giving people that opportunity to call it just the Infinity or 720.

My take on this is that they don't want someone to feel scared of the number. If PlayStation 4 is your first console you clearly missed three other. Here you don't missed anything, you're there from the start! The Xbox One! Love it!

Microsoft lazily just recognized everyone is just going to refer to it as the new xbox. Really they should of just called the the "xbox" and everyone would of just dealt with it. Instead they have added this confusing unnecessary subtitle.

It's like they weren't even paying attention to the Wii U launch.

With HTC seemingly launching every one of their new phones with a One name attached to it I was waiting for there to be some kind of Microsoft/HTC co branding thing announced. As I have said elsewhere already, it's a terrible name and I will keep calling it X-Box 3 for as long as I can.

Maybe not having it imprinted on the device was a maneuver to help keep the name a secret and they will eventually put it there.

They said they had the name since early this year. Why would they lie about that?
