The thing that is really interesting to me will be the EA deal that is going on right now. I wonder how "exclusive" this deal will be. Could we even see Next gen exclusives games? A next gen exclusive Fifa would be killer for example.

@benpicko: Yup! Although he's pretty intense, Hip Hop Gamer is still a pretty cool dude that's pretty down to earth and not too far off my own feelings on the next xbox stuff.

I'm expecting this to be a pretty terrible show. Sony seemed to have learned from all their past events and managed to put together a very strong, cool looking and appealing announcement. I expect MS to be very loud, flashy and focus on things like social media integration, Kinect features and whatever else they have to turn their box into a general entertainment hub (I'd so love to be wrong though).

As for games, I don't think we'll see as many as Sony showed, just a few tasters. At a guess, I'd say Halo 5 and a new PGR or Forza. Maybe something third party too.

Call of Duty Ghost (was that the name?) also confirmed.

Also do not forget this is only an hour. And I bet its more about the whole concept rather than games. E3 is for the games.

Given that Microsoft is coming out on top, I will be curious if they come out as cocky as Sony was, when they were on top following the PS2, or not.

No it is officially now. Sony sold more PS3s world wide. According to their latest finance calls.

True, but as Jeff said on the video he put up today (which I happen to agree with) the 360 is more in people's conscienceness as a brand then the PS3 is. Plus, aside from coming out a year after the 360, it took Sony a long time to get the PS3 to a level where it was reasonable to use (as it is today) and relatively close to being parody with the 360.

@darji: I wonder how many people like me have both but haven't touched one for aaaages. (in my case, I use my PS3 more because PS+ is fucking amazing)

Also, I wonder how many consoles were sold because of hardware failures for the xbox, and people wanting to have a bluray player for the ps3.

In the end though, as I believe Jeff is referring to in today's video, Xbox usually sells a higher % of multiplatform games and in the grand scheme of things that's more important than a couple of million units.

Most games sold better on the 360, and when you factor in things such as Gold and video services, Microsoft won. It's a really dumb argument to have since it basically comes down to which metric you find most important.

What's more important IMO is which platform has the exclusives you're most interested in. For me this gen it was 360 for the first 2-3 years then PS3 from then on.

It is mostly because it was not announced for any next gen console yet. I doubt EA would be so dumb. They want to go after COD afterall.

I have to say, I agree with you.

I mean, the post about there being new announcements was made on the 20th (today/yesterday) - but with Arkam being shown today and a number of other announcements being made before E3, it could mean anything.

BUT, it'd be a coup if MS does lock down BF for Next Generation Systems.

They certainly have some HUGE deal with EA but I somehow doubt it will be Battlefield 4. I mean the whole teases yesterday were from EA afterall^^

@morbid_coffee and @bigjeffreyshould be working at Microsoft. They obviously understand the Xbox strategy way too well based on their whole presentation here. The advertisement on the Bingo card was a perfect touch.

Well, I don't have a horse in this race, but I really don't want to see Microsoft mess up by focusing too much on "other" functionality of the next box. You are going to get this system into homes because of games. They will be the trojan horse. Don't be dumb and neglect them during the presentation. Now to wait and see how it all goes down.

Nothing significant in it between Sony and Microsoft this gen. Certainly not enough to say one goes into the next gen as the dominant force, as Sony went into this gen. 'Most' multi-plat games sell better on 360 because you're usually looking at US sales figures, where the 360 is more popular. Sony also saw off HD DVD and established Blu Ray, which counts for something.

It's reasonable to say that Microsoft 'won' the generation (between the two) in the sense that they went from a ~1:4 ratio against PS2 to a ~1:1 ratio against PS3, which is a massive shift. Though perhaps it would be fairer to say that Sony lost it; the early days of PS3 were a bit calamitous (late arrival, super expensive, multi-plat games often being shit) which really handicapped them for the whole gen.

Neither company goes into the next gen with the upper hand imo. It's too early to predict what could happen next gen, but I'm not expecting significant differences between the two in terms of price or performance (there's little point). Unless one of them does something radical like release a significantly subsidised digital-only SKU, I'd expect them to sell pretty evenly again.

So is the EA UFC game supposed to be like this gens Fight Night 3? Either way I'm excited, MS hasn't really had a good show (E3 or otherwise) since their '09 conference. I don't think MS is dumb enough to be arrogant, they too hopefully learned from Sony's mistakes this gen.
