Get the download VIA USB, save some time since it's a about 1.3 GB. Not that big but save yourself a couple of minutes or if you don't have good a connection days or hours. There are two downloads i guess 6.2 is the day 1 update.

    What you need

    • A USB flash drive formatted as NTFS with a minimum 2 gigabytes (GB) of space
    • A PC with an Internet connection and a USB port.

UPDATE: Microsoft has removed its instructions for updating Xbox One without connecting it to the internet.

The company issued Eurogamer a statement contradicting its earlier claim that the site could be used to manually update an Xbox One's firmware. The files which users could download to do so have also been pulled.

"The site was not an alternative way to take the Day One update and customers still need to connect to Xbox Live for the update," a spokesperson said. "Because of the complexity of this customer support process we've actually removed the page and we will work with customers directly to make sure they have a smooth experience."

There may very well be some issues on launch day when tons of people all try to log in at once and get the patch, so that may be the best incentive to download it now. I know the PS4 was having some issues after the midnight launch, and into the next day, so I would say the same is quite possible with the Xbox One.

I downloaded it, but I didn't really have any intention of using it unless something went wrong. The instructions definitely made it seems like this was purely a procedure for recovering if an update fails and leaves your console in a bad state.

It is actually a good sign that they have these procedures in place just in case something happens (and it more than likely will). It seems like Sony and Microsoft have learned alot from past mistakes.

I wouldn't advise using that update, it sounds like it's not the right one.
