Ran into a sweet bug making the dangers of ironman - only one save - clear to me. Working through the tutorial on ironman, normal. After the third mission and some tutorial research and base stuff I am asked to go to mission control. There the game seems to run into a bug, I can't select to begin scanning, I only see a part of the globe. Can't go back either or do anything, this tutorial is really handholdy. I Alt F4 the game (was my only option), hoping I wouldn't lose any progress. I am now back to the part where I have to build a containment area on my base. That's cool and all, but I already did that and it's already building. There is only one spot on the map where I can build it but it is already there. Also no way to go back or continue. That's a quick end to my ironmade game I guess...

Not a huge deal this early in the game, but imagine you ran into a playthrough crippling bug after a couple of hours (or 10+) into your ironman game with no way to restart an earlier save? Let's hope this is restricted to tutorial related issues.

I'm not trying ironman until I've finished the game once. Partially because bugs can arise in early release time, but also because I want to make sure I have a handle on the quirks of the interface so I don't have to start over on account of some unintentional mistake.

Like last night, I had a mission where my squad was on one side of a train car, with aliens on the other. One of my guys needed healing so I sent my support medic to take cover near them inside the train car. Instead of what I intended, she went to stand on the outside of the car, in full view of two aliens in overwatch. She got gibbed, and soon after the tide turned badly against me.

For now I'll try to exercise some willpower to live with my decisions. I don't mind living with my mistakes. I just don't want to lose progress because of some unintended action.
