Overview
XII Stag (also known as XIISTAG and Twelve-Stag, later known as XIIZEAL) is a 2D sci-fi vertical-scrolling shoot-'em-up developed by Triangle Service and released by Taito for arcades (using their PS1-based Taito G-NET hardware) exclusively in Japan in late 2002.
The first game developed by the three-man studio Triangle Service (founded by former KCE Japan programmer Toshiaki Fujino after unpaid development on G-Stream G2020), XII Stag is a modern vertically-scrolling shoot-'em-up known for its "side attack" and "BF attack" mechanics (both of which add to a roaming multiplier).
After the release of the studio's second game (TRIZEAL), the game was renamed on all future releases as XIIZEAL (to keep with the studio's ZEAL brand).
Ports & Compilations
The game was first ported by Dreams to the PlayStation 2, receiving a release by Taito in both Japan (on March 20, 2003) and Europe (on April 2, 2004, co-published by Digital Bros).
It was then ported by Triangle Service to the PC, first as a limited one-stage demo on 2005 (released on their website as XIISTAG LIMITED) and then as a full release on December 28, 2006 (released on Idea Factory's digital service as XIIZEAL). This version was ported to Windows Mobile devices on 2007 by Eurosoft.
It was ported (as XIIZEAL) to the Xbox 360, bundled with a port of ΔZEAL (the rebranding of G-Stream G2020) as part of Triangle Service's Shooting Love. compilation series. Released by 5pb on May 30, 2013 exclusively in Japan as Shooting Love. 10-Shuunen: XIIZEAL & ΔZEAL, this compilation was later itself bundled with Shooting Love. 200X on December 19, 2013 as Shooting Love. Collection.
The Xbox 360 version was later ported back to the PC, with a digital worldwide release (via Steam) by Degica on June 5, 2015. It later received a port to the Nintendo Switch, published digitally by Triangle Service themselves, on December 7, 2023.
