With the recent announcement of the Persona 4 anime, the name of the main character comes into question. As you may know, he was named Souji Seta in the manga. HOWEVER, apparently his name is going to be Yu Narukami in the anime. And of course he is known to many as Charlie Tunoku.
Yu Narukami
Character » appears in 14 games
The main protagonist of the Persona 4 franchise. As the leader of the Investigation Team, Yu Narukami becomes deeply involved in the serial murder cases in the Inaba region shortly after arriving in town to live with his uncle. Unlike the other members of his team, he does not have a "Shadow" self, can summon and fuse numerous Personas, and has exclusive access to the Velvet Room. He is portrayed by Johnny Yong Bosch in the English dub.
Should the name of the page be changed?
" What ever is canon in the video game should be the name of the page. It's like Red with the Pokemon series. His name isn't Ash or Satoshi in the games, it's Red.If Charlie is his canon name, then the page should be Charlie. "That's just it. He has no canon name.
I already made a request for a name change in the proper thread. What the page should be called is Persona 4 Protagonist. Call him Charlie, or Souji, or Yu if you want, but he has no official name.
I think Souji Seta should be the default name and any other names should be used as aliases (though Charlie Tunoku is debatable). It doesn't really matter too much since they redirect to the same page anyway.
" @Hailinel: If that's the cause, then it should be something similar to Hero from the Dragon Quest VIII. "Nope. Because do you know how many characters are named "Hero" in the database?
Do you realize how stupid that is?
Any time I create a page for a character who does not have a canon name, I always name the character either *Game Name* Protagonist, *Game Name* Hero, or *Game Name* Heroine.
" @HandsomeDevil said:Fair enough. I'll take anything that isn't Souji Seta." Should be Charlie Tunoko. Most people know him by that name, and "Main Character" is far too overused. "Outside of the GB community-- No. They've already said that they don't want a joke wiki. Charlie Tunoku is really insular. "
" Stick with Souji, or go with Yu. Make the others aliases (and even making an alias for "Charlie Tonuku" is admittedly a bit in-jokey). Naming a character page "protagonist" is just awkward and ugly. "Yeah, this is my take on this. Souji and Yu are the closest to official names we're going to get (and really, there's something to be said about "good enough;" a name that may not be what Atlus calls him, but is from something that is an officially licensed product from Atlus, in lieu of an official name, is good enough), and they frankly sound a lot better than "Persona 4 Protagonist," easily the laziest way we could write that. All we need to do is put a disclaimer on the page that notes that this is only a semi-official name, and--surprise!--we already do.
"I think this is going to change once that P4 anime comes out, though. My vote is to stick with Souji Seta; it's been around for longer and a lot of the community has taken to that name, so changing it to Yu makes no sense."
If we're not naming it to "Persona 4 main character", I think "Yu" is the second best option. It feels more official to me because the Persona team is more involved with the anime than the manga.
I still think his name should be Charlie, or something like Persona 4's Main Character. Why should his name in the anime be his name here? This is a video game site, not an anime site. That's what Anime Vice is for.

His name in the fighting game is "Yu Narukami". It is now his official name.
Well he should just be "The Protagonist" but because that can also be said about a lot of wser created characters that don´t have a pseudo name ( like Shepard or the Vault Dweler) ,I think it would the best to call him Yu Narukami , Souji is his canon name for the manga but this is a videogame wiki so sticking to Yu seems more proper given that´s his name for the P4 Ultimate videogame

You just wait until they localize it for the US and they call him Charlie! JUST WAIT AND SEE! [Insert maniacal laughter here]

If the page isn't renamed to Yu Narukami, it should be Protagonist (Persona 4). Naming the page simply "The Protagonist" is just setting it up to be confused with numerous other "Protagonist" pages.

@Hailinel: Oh sure The Persona 3 protagonist is also "the Protagonist" so it should be specified by game in case there´s a name change , also do the avatars of Monster Hunter games have a name? or are they just "the hunter".
Well, here are some of the page names for characters that don't have names:
He'll always be Charlie to me, but I would agree that it should be "Persona 4's Protagonist" or something like it.
Segata Soujiro. DEAL WITH IT. ;p
But I'm glad this has been (mostly) settled (for now) at least (probably).
Mmkay to end this once and for all!! His name is nothing, it will always be nothing he is a blank slate, that's how it is supposed to be! If you give him a name they have to have inner turmoil. The mc can't go without a personality if he has a name, if this name "Yu Narukami" was indeed canon he should of had this name in the first game the original. But why all of a sudden a arcade game is canon? If they wanted something to be canon make a squeal in the same style as the first game dumbasses. This name is not canon and will never be canon, so that is the end of this because an arcade game is not and I repeat not a good way to continue a series. Blazblue is the only arcade game that works since it was an arcade to begin with.
