Phoenix Wright Clones

List of Phoenix Wright clones. I'm always looking for more games add to the list! Do you know any?

Everyone needs more Phoenix Wright in their lives!

Not in Giant Bomb wiki:

Socrates Jones. Flash game. This game does some cool stuff with Phoenix Wright mechanics! Go check it out at

http://socratesjones.com/game.html

Various Phoenix Wright fan game sites!

http://www.court-records.net/casemakers.htm (collection of various engines to create PW games)

http://forums.court-records.net/viewforum.php?f=36 (has some links to fangames)

http://aceattorney.sparklin.org/ (has a healthy collection of fangames!)

List items

  • This one is pretty much a straight up clone of Phoenix Wright. First episode is free, recently finished its kickstarter. I like it!

  • Fedora Spade is a free game where you play as the hardboiled detective Fedora Spade. There are four cases to play and they can be pretty challenging! You collect evidence and disprove the suspect's lies by presenting the evidence at the correct time.

  • Level 5's take on Phoenix Wright! Pretty cool game where you play as as the snappy sidekick of Alfendi Layton. The story gets strangely dark at times? Go play it! First cases are free!

  • I can't believe I forgot to add this to the list! This game is a very capable Phoenix Wright clone made by Adult Swim games. This game made me a fan of the show!

  • Has a court style system like in Phoenix Wright. The pacing of the game is very different though. You're locked up in a school with your classmates, you can only get out if you murder someone and not get found out by the others. After every murder there is a court held between the students and you try to find out who's lying. The court has some funky minigamelike systems and you fire truth bullets at the person who you think is guilty! Fun stuff!

  • Has a cool art style. I think it's a well made game even though I personally didn't end up liking it as much as I wanted to. It tries to do a spin on the Phoenix Wright tropes.

You might wanna make a mention of pywright (http://www.pywright.com/wordpress/). It's a multiplatform engine where people build their own cases. I've in the middle of playing "Conflict of Interest" (http://forums.court-records.net/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=20194) and it's a pretty solid fan-made game

Thanks for the list, I could always use more Phoenix Wright-likes that are not actual Phoenix Wright games not-directed by Shu Takumi.

My favorite Phoenix Wright knockoff is Socrates Jones: Pro Philosopher, though that doesn't have a game page yet. It's surprisingly educational. As I understand it they tried to not clone PW but reached to an almost identical design conclusion anyway.

Do the Danganronpa games count? It's pretty similar in concept, though they try to add an action spin to the courtroom debate design.

I really enjoyed that Layton Brothers game, it's totally worth playing, both for its Phoenix Wright-ness and for the unique ways it explores those concepts. The logic isn't always totally clean in these games, and I think that this game's logic is even less clean than that of the Ace Attorney games, but it was still an absolutely fun game to play.

@audiobusting: I find it odd that they weren't trying to copy PW when they used literally the exact same naming convention for the title of their game.

See:

Firstname Lastname: (word meaning good at something) Occupation

Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney

Socrates Jones: Pro Philosopher

Not that I have a problem with them copying the formula. And there's a chance they used the same naming convention after finding out that another game existed that was similar to theirs in order to make it more clear that they're not trying to claim ownership of the concept.

EDIT: I'm playing it now, and they were most definitely inspired by PW. Perhaps when they were coming up with the initial concept for the game, they came up with similar ideas without knowledge of PW's existence, but upon actually making it they definitely tore a few pages from the PW games. From the shout of "Nonsense!" when you're proving someone wrong down to the fact that Socrates makes the same right-hand-behind-his-head-somewhat-embarrassed motion the Phoenix does. Not that I'm complaining, the game is free and I'm finding it totally awesome. And it's really cool to see philosophical debates put into the framing of a PW game.

@generic_username: I meant more like that they were making an educational parody while consciously trying to avoid xeroxing the whole game, but ended up doing it anyway because it's the best way to go.

@audiobusting: Ah, alright. It definitely worked, though, as I'm enjoying it immensely. If it weren't' for this horrible Puzzle and Dragons addiction I've been overcome by I would have probably played the whole thing in one sitting, though I guess that's presumptuous, considering the fact that I don't know how long the game is.

Hah, that Socrates Jones game was very entertaining, thanks for linking that!

Sure, Danganronpa counts. That court battle system was quite entertaining!

@kewlsnake: Thank you for this list - discovered it this weekend and sadly would've totally missed Layton Brothers without it. Instead I stayed up til 2am playing a mobile game thanks to you.

Thought I should add to the list! I made my own Ace Attorney clone about a year ago, and can be found here:

https://frentzpatrick.itch.io/melbonus

It’s a “bonus chapter” to a visual novel, but the entire bonus is just a love letter to the Ace Attorney games.

I hope others can find it here and have some fun with it!
