Being part of Sony’s ecosystem has its upsides, such as the ability to have games interact across devices, a promise that’s been part of games for years without anyone really taking advantage.
Sony’s hoping to encourage people to experiment with “cross-play” with a couple of neat promotions detailed on the PlayStation Blog.
Since owners of Hustle Kings on PlayStation 3 and Vita can play against one another, if you purchase the game on one platform, you’ll get the other one free-of-charge--for now, anyway. If you own WipEout 2048, Vita versions of WipEout HD and its Fury expansion coming “this spring” won’t cost you a thing, either.
Perhaps most interestingly, if you’ve purchased downloadable content for Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3 for the PS3 version, you don’t need to buy it again on Vita. That’s a great deal for consumers, if an unexpected one. It’s unclear if the downloadable content is atually compatible across platforms or an entirely separate download.
If you’ve been able to give it a shot, let me know how it went for you.

That seems like a good thing, but you still have to buy two copies of the games right?
Edit: DAMN! So close!
This is a pretty awesome idea, since the games are the same across the platforms.
Nope, you get a copy for Vita free.
This doesn't help me much but if they can keep this trend going throughout it's life cycle I'll be impressed.

Well if you are talking about MvC3 then it seems you are only getting DLC free, not the actual game.
@Heltom92: Yea that was what I was referring to. Still cool that DLC seems to be cross platform though.
I just hope that this becomes more and more common. Especially for the less graphically demanding games, it would be great if they would port them across to the vita and have the two compatabile with each other. I would pay a tonne of money if I could start and play a Madden franchise on my PS3, then get on a bus next day take the cloudsave onto my vita via wifi, play one of my games on the vita on my way into university, re-save that sucked back onto the cloud and when I get home to the PS3 its just there waiting for me. That would truly be amazing, and if they decided that they'd only put that sort of awesome synergy between the Vita and the PS4.. i'd be pretty damn sold on a PS4.
Yeh, that's right. Not surprising it's not the full game, we're talking about Capcom after all.
@emergency: I thought that was the idea for the whole crossplay stuff. I think there was an ad showing someone doing that with MLB the show.

Thats awesome if it is. I'm not into baseball at all, in fact I've never played an MLB game or watched a game of baseball in my life (though I am from the UK...). Hopefully other sporting franchises take note and follow this.
Oh, cool!
...Oh.
Well I think the intent here is to let you choose Vita or PS3 without having to get both, and without limiting yourself on available DLC/Characters/online community.
And if you do get both, it means not buying DLC twice.
Not really a big deal for me, personally. But its better than having them be completely different games with separate online and DLC.
For a second I thought PS3 owners of Wipeout HD could get it on Vita, but then I re-read it, and nope.
So, does any of this maybe some how hint at Wipeout 2048 coming to PS3? 'Cus that would be great.
Wait a minute, I own Hustle Kings on my PS3. IF I was to pick up a Vita, could I play Hustle Kings on my Vita without repurchasing Hustle Kings for said Vita?
Hustle Kings,Hustle Kings,Hustle Kings,Hustle Kings,Hustle Kings....
/Hustle Kings
Wording is kind of weird but PS Blog seems to explain it in about as plain english as possible:

Good news regarding Hustle Kings. I own it already on PS3 so I can get a free copy on Vita.
I own Wipeout HD (and HD Fury) on PS3, so I would have to buy Wipeout 2048 on Vita to get the Wipeout and HD Fury for Vita for free in the spring, not so good news. Oh well, don't play Wipeout much anymore these days anyway, so no great loss.
@emergency: Yep, RareMonkey is correct. They are doing exactly that with MLB 12: The Show. You can swap between the Vita & PS3 versions for your Franchise & Road to the Show (which is the Career mode where you build up a single player).
It's too bad they weren't doing a freebie type thing for The Show. I'm getting it on the PS3 and if I also got a free copy for the Vita with it (maybe when you redeem the Online Pass so that they can know who buys a new copy), that would make me a lot more likely to buy a Vita (I probably still wouldn't do it right now because of the price but it would tempt me a lot).
