We're Probably Heading to China for Resident Evil 6

More and more evidence about the inevitable sequel is piling up.

Hey, Capcom, if you feel like making a remake of Resident Evil 2, I'm 100% behind you.
Hey, Capcom, if you feel like making a remake of Resident Evil 2, I'm 100% behind you.

Resident Evil 6 ranks as one of Capcom’s worst kept secrets.

Whatever criticism Resident Evil 5 had to ride out related to its presentations of race and design decisions, the game sold just fine, which means Resident Evil 6 is on the way...eventually.

PlayStation focused site The Silent Chief uncovered two pieces of recent evidence regarding it, including actress Milla Jovovich getting a humorous denial from Capcom employees on the set of the latest film, Resident Evil: Retribution, and a voice actress listing her work on the project.

Actress Wendy Mok’s EWPACTS profile includes her having contributed to the recently resurrected True Crime Hong Kong, Dead Island, and worked on Resident Evil 6 as a “Chinese villager/zombie.”

What “Chinese villager/zombie” means for Resident Evil 6 remains to be seen. Resident Evil as a series started moving away from zombies with Resident Evil 4, but perhaps we’ll see a return to form with the next game. I wouldn’t mind seeing Resident Evil make a return to its scarier roots. [insert crimson head flashback]

Or they could just release the long-cancelled Resident Evil 1.5 already. Man.

Great, I love RE.

Freaksauson Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:23 p.m.

For a moment I thought GiantBomb was going to China to watch RE6.

I would like to see them do something fresh with the series for 6 rather than just copying the structure of 4 again.
Crunchmanon Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:25 p.m.

This is what's on the cover of this month's issue of Game Informer, isn't it? IT HAS TO BE!

snapon Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:25 p.m.

Can't wait. I actually hope they keep the tank controls, they're just part of the series and getting rid of them would mean that Capcom wants to make it even more like and other third person shooter. However, I really hope PlayStation-Move controls are part of the package - the Wii-Mote was amazing in RE4 and playing RE5 with Move was a great experience as well.

Napalmon Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:26 p.m.
Now that I think about it, I almost wish that fake Tokyo Game Show '11 Resident Evil 6 trailer was true. The outbreak becomes so massive that it swallows the entire world. Regardless, I am super interested in what Capcom is doing with 6. 4 was amazing, 5 was alright, but stumbled a bit, especially with the later story elements, "CHRRRIIIISSSS!", and... boulder... punching. Please, no boulder punching. And please, just retcon 5 and make it so it was a Wesker clone they destroyed.
SomeJerkon Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:27 p.m.
Hell yea. I liked RE5 despite the controls, still a f i n e fine game.

Just wonder what in the world 6 is going to cover and when it will take place. As long as there's co-op!
Delta_Asson Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:28 p.m.
I hope you're able to move and shoot at the same time in this one.
HadesTimeson Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:31 p.m.

That would be crazy.

Jimjamjahaon Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:34 p.m.

Judging by the screenshot I take it you meant 2 if so then I agree whole heartedly.

Is this a novelty account or just accidental irony? :D

I loved Resident Evil 5.

Dude, four player RE. You play as Chris, Claire, Jill and Leon.

I got to add that I love that Japan is not afraid to slap a big number on the franchise. Western series always try to avoid it to make their games appear newer and fresher, but the addition of a 6 or a 13 on a game just reminds me of its relevance as a part of gaming history. I'd rather Silent Hill Downpour was called Silent Hill 8, I'd rather the lineage was clear rather than avoided.

Final Fantasy has been around almost 25 years. Celebrate that fact, don't come up with crazy subtitles.

I really hope they think the next one through. Resident Evil 5 disappoints me to no end.  It sure looked pretty.... and thats just about all the good things I can say about that game.

Why? Cause there's gonna be Chinese not-zombies there?

WickedCobra03on Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:44 p.m.

Only a true racist would make a news story about another Resident Evil. Thanks Patrick, you racist!

On a more serious note, I am excited for this game, I didn't love RE5 due to it just being kind of bland, and the co-op was cool, but playing that game alone was kind of a bummer. I really hope they do some new stuff in RE6, but kind of pull the story back to the days where the games were actually creepy in 1,2 and 3; rather than more fantastical in 4 and 5.

Kaelon Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:52 p.m.

First Warcraft goes to China with Mists of Pandaria, then Assassin's Creed Revelations' epilogue movie "Embers" shows Ezio almost literally passing the torch to a new Chinese assassin who then goes back to China to reestablish the brotherhood there, and now there's a good chance Resident Evil is going to China next, too! 2012 is already looking to be a China-themed year, isn't it? I'm all for it. :D

AwesomeAquamanon Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:53 p.m.

Why would anyone think RE is racist?

N2NOtheron Nov. 30, 2011 at 12:55 p.m.

Resident Evil 5 is the only main story RE game I couldn't be arsed to finish. That game was boring and controlled terribly. I am hopeful that 6 will turn it around.

Dig Deeper into Resident Evil

Capcom's Resident Evil (or Biohazard in Japan) series continues to draw in players with its stories of hideous mutations and the pharmaceutical company Umbrella Inc.
