The Comic Commish - September '13

Hey Fond Bomb-adils, it's time for the very last Comic Commish, at least with this format. Maybe you saw one of the eleven other ones of these I did, but this is a monthly feature in which I propose three ideas for new Giant Bomb subscriber content as a way to thank both the site and my Gold Membership Sponsor @omghisam for allowing me the privilege to see what they're up to behind the pay barrier.

It's right at the end of this twelve month homage that I pull out all of the stops and produce the best, funniest and most insightful ideas a whole bunch of cop-outs because I ran out of ideas a long time ago. Thanks for all your comments over the past year, everyone. Who knows? We might even have a similar feature starting next month, though obviously I will need to get the hell off this topic. For all our sakes.

(Every past Comic Commish can be found here: Oct, Nov, Dec, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May,Jun, Jul, Aug and... well, you're reading Sep.)

Premium Content For Your Premium Contempt

"Speed Run Speed Commentary"

It might be a bit odd to watch a bunch of dudes watching a different video from the internet, but it's always fun to have the Bomb Crew observe true gaming masters at work. I'll not be so dismissive to say that the crew don't have skills of their own, but the speed-running community is almost scary in how brutally efficient and error-free they can be, even while being recorded live. For this feature, without knowing the context behind all the various speedrun tricks and glitch-exploits, the team try and commentate - in real time - the whys and hows of some of the most insane and inexplicable speedruns out there. (I wish could recall which UPF had the Ocarina of Time speedrun...)

"Rejected Concepts"

None of these ideas got particularly far. Thankfully.

"Ideas From the Community"

I should probably clarify somewhere that I didn't actually ask a single one of these people anything. Buncha weirdos.

Wait a second. Are you saying that the site's userbase wouldn't want to watch Drew play around with a black dildo for a live audience? I don't believe you.

I just came up with another feature for the comics: Scoops in the Poop. Scoops acquires a notably bad game and live steams it for our amusement............That not enough? How about Bombin' in the PM with Shoes and the Jackal? (Jeff is the Jackal, because duh.)

Ha, I've now been trying to decipher who the users are in your 'community suggestions' panel.

I'm not entirely sure of 'em all, but I know there's:

@arbitrarywater

@video_game_king

@hamst3r

@______

@claude

@______

@HitmanAgent47.... ?

*hilarious reference to the forever notorious Mr Snnnrub*

@______

...So, five out of eight (if I'm correct) isn't too bad, right? Or maybe given how active I am on here, anything below the total eight should be considered a disgrace on my part... @_@

@yummylee: That's not bad, I'm glad I could make it a "5 out of 8" level of obvious at least. I was worried that one might've been a little too in-jokey and esoteric.

I clearly didn't do a good enough job of recreating Hailinel's avatar though. That light grey really vanishes into the background.

An oddly hilarious rendition, too. I feel honored...I think? Of course I am.

To be fair, my current bad game-athon encompasses more than just "high quality" CRPGs. I also play garbage like Grabbed by the Ghoulies, the blog of which obtained zero comments actually relating to the game itself. So I'm clearly in a great place right now.

@arbitrarywater: To be fair, I don't think that there are that many people that are equipped to truly discuss Grabbed by the Ghoulies in any detail.

I think it's more to do with the blogging scene in general cooling down as of late. My last three blogs covered games people generally know about, but didn't get too many comments.

@video_game_king: My most recent blog about games people don't care about has plenty of comments! Sure most of them are about the nature of time travel in Chrono Trigger and if it's essential to the way the plot progresses, but that's proof that blogging is hot with the kids.

And that's certainly a good thing, because Grabbed by the Ghoulies is a pretty crummy non-entity of a game. I should have expected as much, given the number of jokes in Nuts and Bolts at that game's expense, but I was expecting someone on these forums to have played it. I'll say right now that game will probably end up near the top of the inevitable "Worst games I played in 2013" list that will result from all of this.

Your sacrifice is honorable.

A Wii stream sounds dirty. I love it.

You're just lucky I haven't been making you do vegan propaganda and/or pro wrestling comics for the past two years!
