Overview
Steve Nash is a 6'3", 195 lb. Guard from Santa Clara University who has played for the Phoenix Suns and Dallas Mavericks. Nash was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, but he grew up in Canada. He went to high school in Victoria, Canada. He earned a scholarship to Santa Clara University, where he played four seasons and left as the all-time leader in assists. He was drafted by the Phoenix Suns 15th overall in the 1996 NBA Draft. On June 24, 1998 he was traded from the Phoenix Suns to the Dallas Mavericks in exchange for Pat Garrity, Martin Muursepp, Bubba Wells, and a 1999 1st round draft pick (Shawn Marion.) With the Mavericks he went to two All-Star Games (2001-02 and 2002-03.) On July 14, 2004 he signed as a free agent with the Phoenix Suns. During his second stint with the Suns, he has consistently been among the leaders in free throw shooting percentage, assists, and 3-point percentage.
Nash is a 2-time NBA MVP, 8-time NBA All-Star, 7-time All-NBA (3x first team, 2x second team, 2x third team), 5-time NBA assist leader, and his no. 11 jersey has been retired by Santa Clara University. Nash currently has the third most assists of all time in the NBA, and is a future Hall of Famer.
