Overview
The Making of Karateka is a classic game compilation developed and digitally published by Digital Eclipse for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on August 29, 2023.
The first in Digital Eclipse's Gold Master Series of "interactive documentaries", The Making of Karateka follows their previous compilation Atari 50: The Anniversary Collection by interweaving classic and remastered games with a detailed history (with videos, behind-the-scenes pictures, documents, and other material) in a branching timeline format.
This entry focuses on video game designer Jordan Mechner and his seminal 1984 computer game Karateka, including the three earliest versions of the game and several prototypes of both the game and his earlier unreleased game (an arcade-style multidirectional shoot-'em-up based on Asteroids, known as Deathbounce). It also features reimagined versions of both Karateka (as Karateka Remastered) and Deathbounce (as Deathbound: Rebounded).
